Hi everyone!

With the deadline for Fall 2016 approaching, I thought that it would be nice to start a thread. It will be nice to talk to others that are in the same boat. I am pretty new to this whole application process and I'm excited to get the ball rolling.

Anyone else thinking of applying this December? :)

Me! Applying to Austin.

A bunch of my hours verification forms got processed twice, hahaha. Hopefully the admission team figures it out.

Hey! I'm applying for this fall. What campus are you applying to?

Me as well, applying to FL and CA - so I will need to submit two separate applications, is this correct?

I'm pretty sure you can only apply to one campus. You might want to call and double check

I emailed awhile ago and they said to mention that you are open to other campuses in your personal statement! Btw what the heck is this credential evaluation thing? And the prerequisite form? I don't see a place to download anything.

Okay I'll do that. And yes, I have no idea about how the application works it's honestly kind of confusing and just not straightforward... I've read in a previous post that you have to email someone about sending you the prerequisite form...

I think once you submit the Autobiography you're supposed to get a login and access to the rest of the documents...?

I didn't see that lab was required anywhere but I think I would be one of my kidneys that it is.

Alright thank you! I just emailed the advisor so I'll update on here as soon as I know!

There goes my kidney...

Their admission process is a bit of a mess. I called in because I didn't know where their other forms were and also because my reference letters weren't showing up? Turns out it was sent in, but the office of admissions or whatnot didn't upload it onto the website.

Anyway, @krissybear is right, you have to email the advisor Yvette Shaver about the pre-requisite form. I was in contact with a Dianna Holle and she was able to send me the form. Secondly, @yogeeeee the credentialing evaluation is only for international students. I wish their application process would be more descriptive and easier than this....

@elchino can you give us Yvette's email, please? I had been trying to get ahold of Erika for the past few months and I read in another USA thread that she apparently no longer works there so that's no help

Yeah what?!?!? I had no idea what this was. I am so freaking confused by their whole process. Very unclear.

@krissybear Sure Yvette's email is [email protected]. Dianna did tell me they had some staff leave so they are scrambling around a little bit.

@yogeeeee For real, the process is very wishy washy. I called USA to inquire about applying to multiple campuses. Dianna Holle told me that I can only apply to one campus at a time. I told her the website says otherwise (https://my.usa.edu/ics/Admissions). She says other students have called to ask her the same question which she said the same. Apparently she didn't even know this was on her website? She asked me where I found that information and says it is likely outdated and she will remove the info about applying to multiple campuses. She says the only way I can apply to multiple campuses is if I were granted an interview to tell them I am interested in other campuses....

I know a bit ridiculous isn't it?

Quick question, what exactly do they want with the unofficial transcripts? A photocopy or something?

Some schools will let you download an unofficial transcript. For some I just saved the web page as PDF.

I'm sure there's a place for this reply somewhere in the forums, but what were your guys' stats? Congrats to all the future DPT students :)

I'm applying for Austin Summer of 2016 but my stats are
GPA: 3.63
PreReq (for USA): 3.7
GRE: 158V 154Q

I went to some old school community colleges in highschool and I don't think they have the option of seeing grades online...not sure what they expect

So, I don't think I'll be retaking the GRE... I have only taken it once and did not do well, but honestly I do not have the time or money to prep and take it again..... My scores were 148 V 148 Q and a 2.5 W -___- Obviously the writing is horrendous, and the other scores are sub par, but I went in with no preparation at all.... Do I still even have a chance?

Well, you DO meet USA's minimum for the combined verbal and quantitative of 294. I don't see anywhere on the website mentioning the analytical writing section. How long were your essays when you took the GRE? I think it would probably be in your best interest to take it again, but ultimately that is your decision to make. If you are only applying to USA and schools that don't require the GRE or have low average scores, then there would probably be no reason to retake it.

Hi everyone! So I went on a campus tour yesterday and was able to speak to an admissions specialist for a little. She talked about how they are going through a bit of a transition and how admissions is a little under staffed which might explain the delays in responses. As for the application, the website has been revamped a bit so there are some kinks and documents may not be showing up.

Just so you all know, Yvette has been extremely easy to talk to. I have emailed her several times now and she gets back to me. All of my documents that I've uploaded have been accepted as well.. Does anyone know if we still get a new log in or something once we submit the SOP and Autobiography? I'm confused about that

well, bad news for me (and anyone else who will have classes in progress when applying)... apparently classes must be COMPLETED by the Dec. 1 deadline to be considered for Fall 2016 entry... That doesn't entirely make sense though because what about cases where undergrads are applying but won't complete their prereqs before May of that year? Slightly confused and pretty disappointed

What? I don't think that is right. I just called Yvette and she asked about my prereqs and degree status. I told her I will earn my degree in December and I'll finish my prereq in December (the 7th I believe). All I have to do now is wait for my application to be reviewed. I'm also applying for Summer 2016, so I don't see how I'd be okay, and you wouldn't.

To clarify, I believe the admissions specialist said that completed applications have a bit higher priority because it makes it easier for the specialist to analyze your application. For example, if an applicant has not completed all of their classes, the specialist must go over the grade trend and essentially predict what the final prereq grade will be. If this applicant is already borderline, another applicant with a completed application would have a better shot.

I get what you're saying, and that makes sense, but she says "apparently classes must be COMPLETED by the Dec. 1 deadline to be considered for Fall 2016 entry." Application priority does not pertain to what I was discussing. I was making the point that I am applying for an earlier cohort but I am still able to finish the process, even with an outstanding prereq that will not be completed until after December 1st.

Do you know anything about how GPA is calculated? I understand that your undergraduate gives you an overall GPA, but what happens when you retake classes at community college? Also, how does one calculate prereq GPA? Sorry I'm new to this!

Gotcha. After talking to the admissions specialist it is my understanding that the December 1 completion date refers to whether or not a class can be listed as "In Progress" or "Complete". She said you are allowed up to three classes in progress. Some of us were asking if our current Fall semester classes would qualify as complete since they are being completed before the December 15 deadline, but I guess that's not the case.

see, that's what I'm confused about..... I will have 2 classes in progress at the Dec. 1st deadline: A&P II, Physics I and 1 in progress in the Spring: Physics II... I don't understand why I cannot still be considered if the rest of my application is on point.... Anyway....

In regards to GPA, Yvette said they look at 4 GPAs:
-undergraduate GPA
-last 45 undergraduate credit GPA (to show trend - specific to bachelor degree)
-science GPA &
-prerequisite GPA

So you will just have the 1 prereq in progress? I just don't understand how my case is so different

I can't remember if I mentioned this but a counselor just emailed me back saying that they aren't required...I really dont understand their application process

I'm confused about that too...after everything is uploaded do we just wait and they figure it out somehow that we are ready to submit? Do they send us something else? Or is there a hidden submit button somewhere :I??????

What has everyone done regarding the Statement of Purpose and Autobiography-- the specs for the Statement of Purpose state it is typically 1200 words, however I found a pdf doc of the application and it states ~1 typed page for the Statement and 2-3 pages for the Autobiography...

I remember the counselor saying that applicants typically only need the unofficial transcript for specific examples. Ex: applicant is completing a Fall semester class that ends on Dec. 10 and the official transcript will not be released before the application deadline of Dec. 15.

I think that you would technically have three classes in progress even if your class ends before the December 15 deadline. It's up to your discretion whether or not you want to apply! I'm pretty sure you would still be considered- especially if the rest of your application is solid. However, it would just not be as strong of an application as someone who has everything completed. Since you can apply up to two times, I would just say that it's your call!

I am in the same boat as you- I am taking two classes this fall and another class in the spring. I am highly considering moving my deadline to the June deadline.

@preptkc77 June 2016 is the deadline for Spring 2017? Geeze.... that feels like forever away

In regards to the autobiography, what kind of lifespan are they expecting? Should I start with college......high school.....when I was 10 and wanted to be a pop singer? :D

I started with where I grew up a little bit. Then talked about how aspirations took me from high school to college to post college and how all the experiences took me the path of pt school love story fin. Wait so how do they know when to accept our apps??? Do they just check every once in awhile to see if we have finished then look it over? Cause I don't see a submit button or anything!

So I just randomly checked the admission requirements for USA again, and I swear like two months ago they were requiring two letters from a PT. Now it's "two letters from a PT preferred" or "One PT and one faculty member".
http://www.usa.edu/p7-402-Admissions-Requirements.aspx

RAGE. I've been shadowing a PT I dislike very much (she likes me though and the practice is conveniently located with convenient hours) in order to get the second PT letter.

I just spoke to Dianna Holle recently about what documents are needed for a complete application and she told me that the autobiography is no longer a requirement. Apparently only a resume and statement of purpose are needed. Can anyone else confirm this is right?

The application to USA has been frustrating to say the least. There are lots of discrepancies on what is actually needed for a complete application.

I'm still raging. San Diego State just revamped their webpage and changed admission requirements, too. Like, 4 days ago. Granted, their cycle doesn't open until 10/1, but I'm asking for reference letters RIGHT NOW, and I've already gotten hard copies (as per previous requirements). Now they tell me it's electronic and I can't have a letter from an employer? And there's an essay about contemporary issues in PT? And a VIDEO??

Sorry this is unrelated to USA, I'm just really angry.

Woah...This is really frustrating. I spent quite a long time perfecting my autobiography. If they do not take that into consideration, that would have been such a waste.

I also already have my 4 references, as the old application required, submitted electronically. If they only take 2 references into consideration, that would also be such a waste of time and effort. I am having an extremely difficult time getting in contact with Jocyln or Yvette. Has anyone else been able to contact an admissions advisor?
