UNC has several Industry Clinical Research/Drug Development 2 year fellowship programs with GSK, United THerapeutics, PPD and King Pharm for PharmDs. These companies are within 20 miles from UNC.
The first year is spent at UNC working with one or two faculty members conducting clinical research studies(Phase i, ii, or iii)and/or pharmacokinetic/drug metabolism/genomic studies in humans in areas such as oncology, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, hepatology, transplantation to name a few. During this first year you attend training sessions and classes on clinical research design, stats, IRB regulations, good clinical practice, drug developement process.
You will get experience presenting at journal club, seminars and get writing experience with protocols, abstracts, papers...
The second year you will spend at one of these companies. Depending on the company, you may be assigned to a specific research/clinical group or be involved with many aspects of industry research and conduct of clinical studies. You wont typically be involved in drug information, sales, marketing since the focus is on clinical research.
We also have 2yr Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamic Fellowships with GSK and Quintiles for PharmDs or PhDs.
Application deadline is January 1. Application includes Letter of intent, CV, 3 letters of reference, pharmacy school transcript. Start date is July 1.
