UNC Dental- Applying 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And if SDN and pre-dents are reliable, which they may not be, at least 2 of the 10 offers have been turned down.

10 out of 16 OOS offers have been made according to someone in the admissions office.

I committed and I know of 1 other out of stater who committed who isnt on SDN or predents.

UNC has a great reputation and I too would love to go there, but I am curious what it was about UNC that appealed to you so much. The campus is amazing, but the interview day runs so quickly you really don't have much of a chance to see the school or get a feel for it. I am just curious because you really do seem to love it.
After I left my interview, I had a positive feeling toward the faculty and students, but was indifferent when it came to the facilities, just because I didn't even really get to soak in the surroundings.

What stood out to me at least was how they carried themselves. Every interview I had been to spoke poorly of other schools. NYU this, private school that, other state school this, Ivy league that - it was unprofessional. Ranging from little snide comments to blatant declarations, they were all obnoxious. In a nutshell "this is why you should choose our school over your other choices." Everyone says every school does that. I thought every school did this. It bothered me but I ignored it. What can you do? UNC on the other hand were simply saying why you should consider their school period. And they have quite a bit to brag about.

It was also how my interviewers, the students, and the faculty carried themselves (when after everything was said and done I found out that faculty X isn't just a specialist - but an incredible one, where people travel even from EU just to see him/her). Humbling experience when they speak to you respect deserved for a fellow colleague.

I don't know, you may think this is stupid to think about when considering a school. And take what I say with a grain of salt because your experiences with other schools, UNC included, may vary considerably from my own. But if it comes down to UNC and another great school that I can't choose between, it is the little subtleties that stand out.

This is probably a stupid question...but does anyone know if UNC dental students wear scrubs beg in 1st year? I'm asking because we didnt get to see any students in the labs (since interviews on Sat) & I watched the DVD they gave us & it looked like all were in regular clothes...?

Where does UNC dental students buy their scrubs and equipment?

I know that the admissions committee is going to meet and make decisions on the 27th of this month, so people who get in the second round should find out sometime around the 29th. :xf: ....and I know that they've only filled about half of the class...which gives us all pretty good odds

If they meet Wed 27th, we should know by Thurs 28th. Last year, some people were called the day of the meeting and others the next morning. Everyone had been notified by lunchtime the next day. Those waitlisted (like me) were notified by mail a week later. Best of luck everyone!:xf:

Does anyone know if they call people who have been rejected, or do they only call for acceptances?

they only call for acceptances...if rejected you will get a letter in the mail around march or so! I know from experience all too well

How do you know the admissions committee is meeting on the 27th of this month? Do you know someone on the admissions committee or did you call UNC? Not that I don't believe you, I was just wondering b/c it looks like last year they told people on Feb. 5th.

I wish I didn't know the selection meeting date... the closer it gets the more anxious I get... I am guessing there is a lot of ppl in the same boat. What you guys do to deflect the anxiety in upcoming two-three days? :)

I do know someone on the admissions committee and two weeks ago he informed me that they will meet on Wed the 27th........................God help us!

sent my interviewer an email asking when we'll hear back, he said possibly 'within the next couple of days.' You guys were right they meet tomorrow.

hoping for that beautiful news... :)

I remember reading someone's reply to this post about 10 out of 16 OOS seats having been already taken .. or offered.

Does anyone have any update to that number ?

It's really miserable to know that only 6 seats are left

Can someone confirm seeing a food card labeled "Admissions committee only" in the halls this morninng? These are the hardest couple of days of my life... :scared:

yes it is there......Good luck everyone!

is the hardest part...keep your ringers on today and tomorrow gang...:)

Guys, please, please, please.... if you hear from school today or tomorrow, please, let others here know that they are calling.
I already have no nails and bald spots, so don't keep me guessing...

Do you think that they will make calls today, or more likely tomorrow?

they are making calls!!!!!

I GOT THE CALL! From Terry Barker (sp?) at 3:54 pm. I am still in a daze. :soexcited:

Congrats!!!!

Does anyone know if they just started making calls or if they are almost done?

Will there still be calls to make tomorrow....or are they done....omg

5pm... the business day is over... I think they might be done... I better go blow off some steam, rather then sit around for countless hours and stress... It's been stresfull few hrs ... looking forward for tomorrow morning... Anyone got calls on 2nd day? If so, what time are they coming in?

Got a call today also at around 3:45! So excited! Good luck to everyone waiting to hear! I'm sure they will still be calling tomorrow!

Got the call at 4:23PM...ACCEPTED!

They usually make more in the morning. At least they have every other year.

Good luck to all.

Sorry to post and leave you guys hangin....I know that in the past 3 years they always make a few calls the day of the selection meeting and then the rest first thing in the morning the next day. I hope you all get the news you are waiting for...I know how it feels and I wish you all the best!
