Program-Specific Info / Q's UIC... safety?

Hey Guys!

So I just got my official acceptance into UIC. I'm interested in attending (if I can scrounge up the money) but my parents are nervous about the area. Is it in a high crime location? I know the campus is probably safe, but for the people that know... is it okay where the public transportation is?

I'm from Chicago and you will be fine. Crime is bad but not as bad as the media makes it out to be. Just be smart. Be aware of your surroundings. Don't be walking at night, texting, with headphones on. Stuff like that is probably best to avoid. Transportation is generally safe. You will be just fine. There will always be dangers in this world but don't let it hold you back.
