Other Transfer from USA to Canadian residency IM

Currently entering PGY1 in IM at a community program. Wondering if anyone has ever tried to obtain a Canadian residency while currently in an American residency. Asking because I have recently discovered it is a nightmare to get back into Canada given IM is 3y in USA. I know you can do a chief year/1y internship, but it's still a hassle, so if anyone has been able to transfer back to Canada in the middle of an American residency, would really appreciate the input!!
