The real Pharmacy tech Pay wage!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hate rehashing old threads, but I need some advice. I work at CVS right now where I started at $10 dollars an hour without prior pharmacy experience, but I'm leaving in August to go to pharmacy school in Michigan. The school is in another state, so I'm gonna have to get a new tech/intern license. I'm in the process of applying for tech jobs in Michigan, what wage should I ask for? I have experience now and I will be in school. I was thinking about 15, but I don't want it to be so high that they won't give me an interview.

I guess it's fine to bring up an old thread heh :D (although random zombie outbreaks can deter me from giving good advice)

First off, why not transfer to a CVS in Michigan? I'm sure there might be one close by (maybe not... IDK how many CVS stores there are in Michigan, and IDK how many would be potentially close by.)

Second off, you're about to go to pharmacy school. Your pay raise just went up anyway. IDK what the rules are in Michigan for what defines an intern (either start of P1 or start of P2 year). Find out.

If you go to a chain the Intern rate will be set by whatever year you are in. So it won't matter what you ask for.

Gotcha. Does anyone know what cvs's p1 pay rate is?

I started out with no experience at a Kroger pharmacy at $10.60 just because I had certification. It would have been only $8.50 without the certification. And they reimbursed me the $116 test fee. Getting the pharmacy tech certification is worth it as long as you don't go into debt to get it. Self-study if your state allows it. I used Pharmacy Tech Review and Mosby's study book that I got from the library. Studied three weeks. Piece of cake.

Started as a clerk at an independent with $10/hr. Got my tech license and got bumped up to 13. Went to work for Walgreens for a few months and initial pay was 13.75. I'm currently at an independent again and pay is 16

I make $11.50/hr, would be $12.50/hr if I was certified. I work in a hospital inpatient pharmacy in the Midwest and feel slightly underpaid. Some cashiers at grocery stores make $12/hr in the area.

Don't know if anyone has talked about the suburbs of Philly, but I was offered $12/hr at Wal-Mart (company standard), $10.50 at Walgreens (standard), and $10.25+some part-time benefits after working for 1000 hrs at Wegmans .

All were part-time so I turned done Walgreens. Then I had opt out of Wegmans because my availability changed (lessened), because I actually took a full-time job as a research specialist at UPenn. As for Wal-Mart, I'm still waiting to hear back post-drug test and background check.

P.S. Can someone tell me if working a full-time research position is better/worse than a part-time pharm tech for my two gap years was a good decision?

Can you do both?
