What's the future hold in store (career-wise) in urology? Radiologists are seeing their imaging reimbursements cut, potential for outsourcing... FP, EM, Anesthesia all have issues with midlevels, etc. etc. Are urologists in demand? How's this demand going to change in the future?

Urology still has as bright a future as any other medical specialty.

The benefit of urology is that although a radiologist could go and get someone situated on an ESWL machine and blast the stone, they're really not going to be able to do much to manage any complication beyond placing a neph tube and hoping that the steinstrasse will pass if the patient is given flomax.

So, I think there's a future in urology. The money won't be as good as it once was, but you won't starve.

Good luck.

As the population ages, and people live longer, urology faces a huge demand in the future. Reimbursements get cut in some areas, and people find areas to find new revenue to take their place.

Urology is on the cutting edge of robotic surgery, endourology technology is getting better every year.

It's a great time to be a urologist.
