A CBC of a person with Thalassemia minor will show normal MCHC yet a blood smear will show that the rbc are hypochromic. Could someone please explain this phenomenon? I am a little confused as in generally we were told that low MCHC will result in hypochromic. How is it possible then to have normal MCHC and hypochromia rbc? Thanks.
