Hello,
I have been to programs which say that their residents get enough TEE exposure to qualify for and then pass the TEE certification. Recently I went to a program and when I inquired about this, they said it was impossible for a resident to qualify to sit and pass the TEE exam. Does anyone know what the guidelines are for becoming TEE certified while still in residency?

Depends on whether you're talking about being "certified" or being a "testamur."

Take a look at http://www.echoboards.org/ for more information.

Certification requirements depend on when you completed residency. It is possible for a person to take the test and become a testamur at the end of residency. Certification requires more.
