Salary: Up to $250k plus benefits (Depending on experience)

Purpose of Position:
This position is responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and medical illnesses. Works with a multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure development, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment. Ensures medical record compliance with regard to state, federal regulations, JC Standards and other accrediting bodies or agencies. Ensures medical record documentation compliance rate of 100% for monthly reviews and ensures appropriate completion of documentation to support reimbursement activities for medical coding and billing practices. Serves as an on-call physician when scheduled and as needed.

• Must possess excellent evaluation, documentation, examination, and diagnostic skills for treatment and management of mental and medical illnesses.
• Must possess effective communication skills, both oral and written, in order to succinctly document in the medical record and for articulating and interacting with patients and others regarding clinical and/or administrative concerns or issues.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
• Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification
• Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree and completion of an accredited/approved psychiatry residency training program.
• Current license to practice Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia and DEA Registration.
• Prefer experience with an inpatient population.

DUTIES

• Conducts psychiatric and general medical examinations and evaluations and status changes.
• Ensures that medical history, mental status, and physical examinations are completed according to Hospital Policy, TJC and CMS Standards, or other regulatory agencies.
• Provides DSM-IV-TR Diagnoses via assessment to include Axes I-V that are valid, complete and supported by timely and appropriate documentation.
• Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational psychopharmacological practices and documents response to treatment and obtains consent or substitute consent in a timely manner.
• Regularly assesses and addresses medication side-effects and reports adverse drug reactions.
• Ensures that medication regimen that does not conform to the standard of care for diagnosis given is cleared with Hospital Medical Director prior to implementation.
• Facilitates patient groups for medication management and/or mental illness education as part of active treatment.
• Enters orders in the Computerized Physician Order Entry.
• Attends judicial hearings on campus appropriate to assigned patient population.
• Arranges coverage for patients when taking time off ensures hand-off communication to covering practitioner, and completes required documentations prior to time off.
• Participates in the MOD on-call coverage, arranging for coverage when unable to fulfill duty tour, and providing timely examination, treatment, and documentation of patients.
Additional Details/Expectations

• As Head of Treatment Team, provides effective leadership in developing and maintaining the therapeutic process through collaborative efforts between physicians, nursing staff, psychologists, social workers, rehab staff and patients. Maintains current VA medical license and DEA registration and obtains required CME credits. Ensures at least 75% attendance at assigned Medical Staff Meetings, Committee Meetings, and other Medical Staff activities including but not limited to Grand Rounds, Clinical Case Presentations and Journal Club.
• Participates in Performance Improvement and FMEA projects of the hospital when requested. Medical Staff Performance Improvement processes including OPPE and FPPE, and a least 2 Hospital/Medical Staff Committees
• Attends required Annual Mandatory Training, and completes required competencies in a timely manner.


COMPENSATION
