Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the novel, Lost Horizon, written by British writer James Hilton in 1933. In it, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Himalaya. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia - a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world.

Pathology Shangri La: Is a private practice job with 6 months off a year, where the salary is 400 grand, where you spend a month at a time in a Tuscan village sipping 10 dollar a glass Pinots under an umbrella at the beach. Where when you slip into your condo retreat in Puerto Vallarta, the locals refer to you as 'El Guapo'.

Its the land where you are always well rested, well dressed and worry free.

There are no grant renewals in this land, no overbearing department chairs, no mortgage I cant afford, no committee meetings I have to attend taking time away from my drop dead gorgeous wife and kids.

In essence, Shangri La isnt the land of "what ifs" regrets, broken dreams and missed goals, it's the Elysian fields bounded by calm ocean tides...

Im not there, but its where Im going because Ive actually seen it.

I liked you better as a wicked, downtrodden, lecherous, cynical, pessimistic grump.....Well, at least you're still lecherous.

Shangri-La:

Andy wins $100 trillion in the lottery.
Andy builds own research complex.
Andy funds research with interest from the $100 trillion principal.
Andy rides off into the sunset with a Toyota Corolla.

Is this a Walgreens commercial?

Nice :) I knew a really hardcore researcher here - tenured professor - who drove her Escort to work every day. Her husband is an MD, and they still lived in an apartment. She was happy as could be...

No quibbles from these quarters.

Seriously though, if I won $100 trillion I would not be working period!

"I would do two chicks at the same time. If I had a million dollars, I think I could hook that up cuz chicks dig dudes with money."

Now take that and multiply that by whatever ($100trillion / $1 million) is.

That shat aint cute, its sad! Sad, sad like the homeless vet at the off ramp to Hollywood freeway in a wheelchair begging change.

Damn...I guess its gonna be me and 1,000 radiologists in Shangri La then, screw you guys!

Wow... that would be better than an MD/PhD and CP training combined!

There was a AP/CP/NP/SP/FP in my old department, no shiat true story, all those strung together spell L-O-S-E-R.

If they were trying to save/conserve money, wouldn't it have been better to buy instead of rent?

Oh me oh my, shall I get a tummy tuck or a nose job? Haven't they told you that eggshell is the new beige? *sniff* I wonder if I should paint my nails fuchsia or freesia. Don't you dare zoom in on my face! My pores are invisible, my pores are tiny, my pores are cute!

No kidding... she was kind of a nut job anyway. I imagine they must be swimming in cash now - a physician and a tenured professor with no kids. But they did end up buying a big, empty house.
