Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the novel, Lost Horizon, written by British writer James Hilton in 1933. In it, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Himalaya. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia - a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world.
Pathology Shangri La: Is a private practice job with 6 months off a year, where the salary is 400 grand, where you spend a month at a time in a Tuscan village sipping 10 dollar a glass Pinots under an umbrella at the beach. Where when you slip into your condo retreat in Puerto Vallarta, the locals refer to you as 'El Guapo'.
Its the land where you are always well rested, well dressed and worry free.
There are no grant renewals in this land, no overbearing department chairs, no mortgage I cant afford, no committee meetings I have to attend taking time away from my drop dead gorgeous wife and kids.
In essence, Shangri La isnt the land of "what ifs" regrets, broken dreams and missed goals, it's the Elysian fields bounded by calm ocean tides...
Im not there, but its where Im going because Ive actually seen it.
