Hi guys, I'm so grateful that I've found this site, a bit late but better late than never, right?
Anyway, here are my stats:
cGPA 3.76
sGPA 3.63
>3000 hours of clinical experience, I am currently working in a psych hospital as a counselor, plenty of daily patient interaction.
No research experience but I am looking into that.
>500 hours of volunteer work (both medical and non-medical)
I think my MCAT is probably my biggest drawback. MCAT 1st round 499 (CARS=122), 2nd round 502 (126-123-127-126), not great but slight improvement. As an immigrant with English being my second language, I really had a difficult time with the CARS. With that being said, for both MCATs I borrowed study materials from a pre-med student instead of paying $1.5-2K for a prep-course.
I kept my goal rather realistic. I applied to 6 DO schools this cycle (2017-2018) and 1 state MD that only recruits state residents. After I completed all my secondaries, I received 4 interviews, WSU, LECOM, KCU-COM and PNWU-COM.
So far I've already received 2 rejections (KCU-COM just emailed me today), and I also have one last interview upcoming on April 6th. I also checked my status from the LECOM portal today and my status just changed, so I am expecting a physical mail from them soon (fingers crossed). I know this cycle is not over yet but I am also trying to mentally prepare myself for more rejections. If I don't have any luck this year, I wonder if I should try it again for the 2018-2019 cycle for the 3rd time and apply to more DO schools, or should I take a year off, or should I just bite the bullet and spend some money for a prep course then retake my MCAT for the 3rd time?
If you think reapplication is possible, may I get a suggested list of DO schools that I can apply to?
Thank you so much!
