Any path residents or recent board sitters out there who know of nice, succinct reading materials for clinical chemistry and micro? I have about zero interest in these areas - just interested in being able to pass the CP boards when the time comes. When I ask the faculty here, they suggest Teitz and other similar voluminous, overly-detailed references that I will never have time to read. Right now I would pay about $1000 bucks for a book titled "First Aid for Clinical Chemistry/Microbiology for Pathology Residents."

Clinical Laboratory Pearls by Steven Jones is a great, succinct book on clinical chemistry in outline format. One of our staff recommended it to us and many of us bought it. It's great for exams and rotations. Here's the link:

As for micro, none of the books I found were that appealing. Bailey and Scott is the most readable of the larger books. Osler notes are good, as DrBloodmoney mentioned. I also found that re-visiting my Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple was helpful.

Amen on the Clinical Laboratory Pearls. It is great for boards study.

Another good resource is the ARUP Guide to Clinical Laboratory Testing. There are some short summaries about testing (and the corresponding diseases). You can find it online here:

You're on your own for micro, though.
