Hey everyone...I'm new to the forum...but as there are a lot of like minded people here I'd like to have some advice from people who are going through the same thing as I am....

I recently received an invite from UT-Chattanooga about a week ago...I replied right away requesting the April 8th date as its the only one that I have free without screwing with my other dates...In order to try to save some money I also asked if there was a chance I could come by while I'm in chattanooga early in february for the Southeast Surgical conference (knowing it was a long shot but having some friends who have done things similar). Today I receive an email back, not surprisingly saying that the only dates they interview were in the letter. Again I request the April 8th date only to be informed later that it filled up earlier that day...

I'm really at a loss of what to do...because I can't take the other dates without rescheduling multiple other interviews, and I can't press the issue too hard about emailing her a week ago requesting that date without looking like a pushy jerk...

Any advice would be appreciated...

Hey every body ...

Any body interviewed as yet ? if you did then kindly post your experience.

Any idea about final number of applicants ?

I have only 4 invites as yet :(

All the best

First interview in Utah this week. Is there an area with program info or reviews? I'm new to this forum, and it sure is hard to find good info about these programs out there.

Don't know if there is a magic number for plastic surgery interviews for a successful application season. I'd like to think we should be on solid ground with 4-5 interviews. Or am I way off base here? Of course, the more the better.

Hey Everyone,
Don't know if anyone else is having this problem - it's not like I am getting a ton of interviews but they all seem to be on the same dates so I'm definitely double booked on a few dates.
Was wondering if anyone wanted to do a switch with me for interviewing at Mayo Ariz on the 12th so I can go the 26th instead?
Any takers let me know!
In the mean time good luck everyone!

Is anyone interested in switching your interview with either South Carolina or Nebraska on February 25th for any other date? Thanks!

Would anyone be willing to switch their UT Houston interview date. The Feb 25th date is the only one available, and I already have airfare booked to fly into Charleston that day for saturday interview.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Hey Sooner doc,
I would be very happy to switch south Carolina with u so I can interview on the 25th and you can interview on the 26th. Would that work for you? If so we should email the program.
Thanks.

Does anyone know what the real deal is with Miami's program. All I have heard from people is that everyone there is not happy. However, I've never heard that from anyone who has actually been there. My general surgery program still has a reputation for being malignant even though it hasn't been like that for the last 10 years. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't also the case with Miami. Thanks.

I am also interested to here about Miami's program. Also, did anyone else get an interview from them today? I saw that they already gave out interviews, but I got an email today for one.

I visited the Miami program, and I was quite impressed with the overall structure of the program. They hired two new faculty, one from Cleveland Clinic and another from Hopkins. The Chairman has made some significant changes to the program. The residents who we met seemed happy and were enjoying training in Miami (as a city). You spend time at Miami Children's with Anthony Wolfe. I wouldn't believe what you hear unless you see it for yourself.

Here's the link to statistics for previous years' match:

http://www.sfmatch.org/residency/plastic_surgery/about_match/match_report.pdf

Was hearing a lot of discussion on interviews about this, especially related to hearsay regarding SF Match declaring that application numbers are about the same as last year (~150). Well, it looks like several people who register (~30% for the past few years) don't complete the process (perhaps don't get interviews or whatever). Pretty consistent every year. 146 registered last year but only 103 completed the process (submitted rank lists). 84 of them matched for a match rate of 82%. That being said, 13 positions went unmatched and so most of those positions would have likely been available outside the match...? I don't know. If those 13 positions were filled, that's 97 positions filled out of 103 submitted rank lists...94% of applicants secured a spot.

I would only expect application numbers to go down or stay about the same. So, assuming you actually have interviews and all else being equal, you all have a good chance of at least matching.

Hey
Anybody going to MUSC next weekend? I have a hotel room with two beds, and would be willing to split the cost and room with somebody. This interview process is starting to get expensive. I will be there friday night and saturday night, and will be at the saturday interview. My flight does not leave until sunday morning, so hence the extra night. If anyone is interested just let me know. See you there!

Anybody going to Davis tomorrow? I haven't heard much on the blog, but supposedly they are interviewing 17 this year for the 1 spot.

I need some assitance...So the second week in March I'm scheduled to go to Wayne State, Summa, and UT-Memphis. I don't know much about any of these programs, but after looking at the $1000 plane ticket price to try for two in one weekend, I've decided that I can only afford to attend one of the interviews. What do you guys know about these programs? Any recommendations between the three? You are more than welcome to send me a message with any insight. Thanks for your help.

How have individual applicants usually been matching on their rank lists over the past couple years? I heard that its rare to get your top spot, but are most people matching at their top 5 assuming they are pretty normal? Again, even with 20 interviews its possible not to match, but these days I was optimistic considering there are like 120 ppl for 100 spots. What are your guys thoughts?
