Which specialties make the least/most? Which are the most competetive to get?

Are there any websites where job information and salary info can be found?

bump

Our salaries are probably gonna decrease to similar amounts as the UK after obama is done.

You shouldn't pick a specialty based on money, that's ridiculous.

If you are an EU citizen and are willing to work anywhere in the UK you will pretty much always be able to get a gp job. All surgical specialties are competitive, esp neuro and plastics, most other things aren't crazily competitive.

You shouldn't respond to people's questions with unwanted comments about their question instead of answers, that's ridiculous.

I am not going to pick a specialty based on money but I am just curious. Most websites say that all specialists in the UK earn the same amount of money. Is this really true. I just don't understand how difficult and risky fields like neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery would earn the same salary as lifestyle friendly fields like allergy/immunology or rheumatology

We aren't really ever told this sort of thing to be honest. As a trainee your salary varies depending on your banding- how many hours you do basically. What you earn as a consultant will vary massively depending on how much private work you do. Not all specialties have the same amount of private work, a lot of neurosurgery for example is emergency stuff so you aren't going to go private whereas a lot of plastics is done privately so a plastic surgeon would earn more. I imagine what a consultant earns on the NHS doesn't vary hugely or all surgeons earn a similar amount but others earn less maybe, but, like I said we are never really told about money beyond trainee level.
