PhD-->MD...how many of you are continuing research?

Greetings comrades,

I am wrestling with the idea of heading back to medical school after I finish my PhD program. I completed a year of med school, dropped out and went to grad school, and am now contemplating going back to med school. Please save your judgements and probing questions for another time.

My question is this: have any of you MD after PhD folks continued on with your research efforts after completing school/internship/residency? If so, please explain your research efforts (non-enabling) as I'm curious to see how many of you maintained basic science research links.

As a followup question to those in residency/fellowship...have any of you found that your graduate research was credited towards your research requirements for fellowship? Is this a pipe dream?

Again no hating please. I'm fairly ignorant
