I didn't say ALL, I said most. If you can afford for someone else to fix it, why not? They're absolutely brilliant pieces of engineering. If I bought a euro car, it would be a BMW.

In terms of the ****tyness of major european cars (how often they break/CEL), here's the breakdown in my experience:

1. Jaguar. If you have one, I'm sorry. I can tell you stories that would spin your head.
2. VW/Audi <-----total pieces of crap. I've never met a VW that I liked, and the Audi is it's more refined (read: more sensors that will break) brother.
3. Land Rover
4. Volvo
5. Mercedes
6. BMW/Mini

I know there are others, but the ones I see most often are there. Keep in mind this is from a mechanical perspective. While you may love flying around in your Audi R8, I'm the one who has to diagnose your perma-check engine light. Thusly, I hate it.

EDIT: Ha, I said "breakdown"...no pun intended.

nobody buys german cars for reliability...you want reliability, go get a honda

people buy german (aside from status) for the fun to drive factor(german engineering) and safety

psh...whatever...all you BMW haters! no small penis syndrome here or any type of syndrome. I just love the car...i dont race it, i'm not a dick on the road...Just love the car...

Mercedes Benz is much much much better looking and better overall. I drive a Lexus though b/c I want reliability. :)

True. I never got a check engine light from my 2006 Honda Accord. My CC has given that to me a bunch of times, probably due to my modifications more than the OEM stuff. (I have a cold air intake, downpipe w/ catalytic converter removal, chipped to stage 2, H&R sport coilovers, and Dunlop Direzza Z1 tires.) It's almost track ready, I probably need a nice limited slip differential before I add any more power components to the car.

Only thing I miss from my Honda Accord is the moon roof, which doesn't come with the CC base model. (Manual transmission was the most important component to me, so I sacrificed all wheel drive, a V6, and a moon roof in order to get the manual transmission. Of course, with my modifications, I can outrun the V6 model pretty easily.)

Mercedes Benz is much much much better looking and better overall. I drive a Lexus though b/c I want reliability. :)

May be. But they lack manual transmission and are more geared towards luxury rather than performance.

audi > bmw frankly, there is no reason to buy a lux car in a down economy anyways, you just make yourself a target for the desperate

I'd like to agree, but...

I did some cost comparisons between the BMW 335i and the Audi S4, which are in the running for my next car. The BMW was going to be around 550/month w/ the M sports package and $1500 total out of pocket. Audi told me the S4 would be around $750/month with $1500 total out of pocket. Also, the BMW dealer asked me if I wanted to test drive the car. The Audi dealer didn't even suggest it, and I had to ask for a test drive, to which they said no.

Regardless, before I buy either car, I'm going to have to do a 24-48 hour test drive. I'd put down whatever deposit is necessary, but a 15 minute ride with the sales agent sitting next to you the whole time, will not allow me to truly test out the car.

I don't know much about cars though. I just like how it looks. I would love to have a S600.

you newbie! you should drive an BMW M3, OMG. Although I must admit the C63 AMG looks badass!

You are right I should!!! Hopfully as a pharmacist I can afford to own one BMW M3, one Benz S600 and one Porche. I think that should be enough for me! Oh and a big mansion would be nice too.

How is your store doing? I hope it's getting busier.

The new jaguar XJ coupe supersport !! in my mind...it has destroyed all the other luxury cars I dreamt about before today....the technology built into that car is crazzy....but will I put my money on it? Def not with a pharmacist salary.

That's a lot of cars! lots of money too! The store is going great! We are getting busier every month! Filling more scripts every month and actually looking to expand! So far so good! Thanks for asking!:)

It takes a total douchebag to drive a BMW or Audi. For multiple reasons. And I don't care what excuse you give. You are a douchebag. One, its ****ing up our country's trade deficit. Two, they are stupid wastes of money. Three, they are all overrated as hell. I've ridden in an M3. And an Audi A6. I was incredibly unimpressed with the ride quality. Every ****ing bump in the road. People drive them because they think the perceived coolness of the car will somehow enter their body via osmosis.

I think practically. If I was to get a luxury car....Lincoln Town Car, baby. It doesn't have a huge engine, but I don't give a **** about that. I don't drive like I'm in a hurry and go 5 MPH over the speed limit at worst. Importantly, it has the smoothest and comfiest ride. And you can get one, 2007 or 2008, off lease for like $14,500-$16,500. That's wtf I'm talking about. Gimme a land yacht. You can have your stupid little German Tonka toys. Thankfully this country has a surplus of douchebags and a deficit of people with taste, so there is low demand for a real man's car.

Throw some subtle, just-slightly low profile chrome rims on that beast...hell yeah, now that's a ****ing car.

Cadillac CTS would be a close second.

Oh hell yeah, you'll pick up all the babes with that one...if you're going by the retirement home. I kid, I kid, to each his own. I don't really care about the cool factor, seeing as how I ride in a 2000 ford focus wagon with a front bumper cover held together by nylon ties.

And that thing does have a fairly decent size engine (V8). Take that and your 20 MPGs all the way to the foreign oil supply...if you're all for the American economy, might as well get something a little better on gas. ;) (Again, SARCASM. I hate having to put disclaimers on posts.)

Unlike you insecure bitches, I don't need a car to make me think I can pick up girls. Plus, I'm married, anyway.

But you name one car in the universe that rides as comfortably as that boat. I'll save you the time, you can't.

Our economy is based on the dollar being used as the de facto worldwide currency used to buy commodities on the international market. It keeps demand high. Oil is one of these commodities. In fact, it is the most important and central one of these. It's called the petrodollar. Read up on that ****. If we deceased the demand for oil, our economy would collapse.

I bet to differ.

To each their own.

My life has literally "changed" since I bought me a Lexus. I won't elaborate

I am still driving my Hummer 2004 and it rocks, baby....Now, let's all get back to the original topic: PA who acts/thinks they are physicians!!!

lol, not sure how putting a V8 gas guzzler up helps make your point...our addiction to oil needs to change

you know, i could post the most obnoxious post and berate you, but i won't; To call someone a douchebag because they drive a BMW?? Please... all I gotta say, Cadillac CTS biggest piece of ****...Besides, your assumption that it takes a total douchebag to drive a BMW is as accurate as me saying someone who accepts state aid are scum bags.

oh snap

SHC and Sparda, how do you plan on financing these cars? I'd love something nice, but I definitely don't want a hefty car & insurance payment. My number one goal post-grad is probably paying down this debt.

I was just kidding around. I drive a 6 years old lexus right now. When I graduate I am going to try my best to pay off my 80K student debt ASAP. I will be living in a apartment and driving the SAME car after graduation. After I finally get my loans paid off. I will then buy a decent house and a USED Mercedes. Maybe a USED BMW too...not sure yet. I would LOVE to buy BRAND NEW cars, but it would be stretching it with a pharmacist's salary.

That's a lot of cars! lots of money too! The store is going great! We are getting busier every month! Filling more scripts every month and actually looking to expand! So far so good! Thanks for asking!:)

I am glad your independent pharmacy is doing good! I have my IPPE at an independent pharmacy right now and the store is very slow...but the owner drives a BMW M5 so I don't think he is too bad off! I know it is very hard to beat out the big chains.

We are partnering with another pharmacy in Miami (closed door facility) and going to open another one...We are just gonna hire a Rph, a few techs, and a driver and let the facility run itself...

I think after you graduate, you should look at independent pharmacy. Look at junior partnerships...It will be hard work at first, but the rewards will be amazing a few years down the road...

I would if
1) I was better at fixing insurance problems...I am very bad at that.
2) There were fewer chains

Personally I think it is very hard to compete with a chain pharmacy. Costco and Walmart etc are so cheap....and people all want CHEAP! i am glad it is working out for you though! :)

Please do. I'm an argument enthusiast. And very, very bored.

To call someone a douchebag because they drive a BMW??

Yup.

You're probably right. I'd never buy one of those.

Besides, your assumption that it takes a total douchebag to drive a BMW is as accurate as me saying someone who accepts state aid are scum bags.

Meh, please. Only kids from Jersey and insecure people drive BMWs. There is no other logical reason for ownership. Less its free...

Well...I once went on a date with a guy that drove a very nice BMW...he was okay looking and I didn't know him. If he was to drive a crappy car I would have most likely turn down a date with him. So a nice car helps some. ;)

Unless I get married in the next 2-3 years, I'd be living at home. So that's a whole bunch of costs reduced. (Parents refuse to allow me to leave until I get married. Indian parents... don't ask.)

At least your honest...Im not from Jersey, and im pretty secure about myself, so your logic and argument are none here...again, its like me saying only lazy people use state aid, there is no other logical reason to accept it...You are stereotyping, which is fine, but at least have some logical reasoning behind why i am a douchebag...

You act like that's a bad thing. Let's be honest, you rather freely admit that you are a golddigger and incredibly superficial. Frankly, NOT the type of person I want to date, anyway. Its like a regular ass car would act as a buffer for people I don't want around me, anyway.

Honestly, I think a nice car just gives meek people more confidence. Which is really what gets you girls. It's like personality Viagra.

Well, if you knew what you actually paid for the drugs, youd see that you still make a profit...you dont need to fill 500 rxs daily to make it...fill 75 daily, keep overhead low, and you would be ok...again, to each their own...

I am not a golddigger. I didn't even know the guy very well at all. If I had known him and really liked him then the car would not have mattered. But since I didn't know him then the ONLY thing I could really judge him on was his looks and car. It's the only stuff I can see at the time. A car is like your physical appearence. It matters AT FIRST when someone first meet you. So it's important.

If I can't find a job that I really like at a mail order pharmacy or hospital then I would look into owning my own pharmacy. B/c I hate working for retail chains too! I will most likely open with a partner though.

Easy there...dont mind WVU, he was dropped at birth...what your saying is since you didnt know the guy, you were judging him by the clean car he drove...clean car=clean guy....not so much that "wow, he drives an expensive car, so he must be rich" rather "hmmm...its a clean car, so he must take care of himself and be clean"...

A car is a tool used for transportation. Most people spend very, very little time in their cars. As such, logically, spending tons of cash on a car is stupid as hell.

But I can see where the hobbyist thing comes into play. They problem with that is that equally luxurious and fast cars can be bought from Chevy or Ford (or whoever) at a fraction of the price. With those types of cars, you are essentially paying a premium for a badge that reads "BMW."

And why would you do that? Tons of reasons, I'm sure. And most of them make me arrive at the conclusion that you are a douchebag. Owning stock in BMW...working for them...being given one hell of a discount on one out of the blue...I guess I could see that. ut being stupid enough to buy one on your own volition? Pure madness.

But more than anything else, I find it amazing that people can have the lack of shame for owning such a thing. It is glorious excess to the highest degree. Sure, a car at a fraction of the cost can get you from point A to point B. But you want to get from point A to point B in some sort of superficial sense of "style." Again, this concept amuses me. And simultaneously, there are people everywhere living with no heat, no food, no clean water...and the BMW douchebags want to drop $40k on an overrated, overpriced car because they aren't good enough to get laid without it? How can you live with yourselves? Unless, of course, you just live an unexamined life...or consciously block out the rest of world because you are a sociopath that doesn't give a **** about other people you could very easily help if you so wanted.

Seriously, who was it bragging about how a Lexus is getting you laid? lmfao...that's sad as hell. Are you seriously so pathetic that you can't get girls without a car? That's funny as hell.

....

And do continue the absurdity of comparing car ownership to actual socioeconomic problems like personal governmental aid. As an argument enthusiast, this entire concept enthralls me.

Nope, does not hold up to logic.

She claimed that she went on a date with a fellow because he was driving a luxury car, not because it was clean. There is a wide range of dissonance in this statement. I keep my dull-ass, cheap, reliable Taurus as clean as a whistle. The paint shines and the wheels are impeccable...no scratches, no dings. However, I'm sure that, as a golddigger, she is not impressed by a clean Taurus.

Man, it must hurt to not be as smart as unemployed trailer park peoples like myself.
....

Well, I got to go for the night. Enjoy your evening in your BMW. I have a night on the town with my woman and my unacceptable Taurus.

you aid in the socioeconomic problem...and i wasnt comparing cars and socioeconomic problems...i merely was stating how flawed and illogical your thinking is...And to judge me and others who drive $40000 cars when there is starving people and what not...First, those starving and sick people would be DEAD if it wasnt for us douchebags who made all this money to hand over to the government to aid them...You cant have your cake and eat it to...So i want to drive a $40000 machine; I was fortunate to have an education and I pay my taxes so people like you can get the help they need when you need it...So before you go bashing a so called douchebag, just as you are entitled to your benefits, im entitled to whatever luxury i can afford...

it must hurt to have to bash others to make yourself feel like a part of society...To go asleep every night and thinking what a real dickhead you are...Anyway, She stated that a car is like your physical appearance...and physical appearances to me mean how you present yourself such as, are you clean shaven, are you fit, are you dirty...etc etc etc...and since when are you unemployed? Have you run down to the unemployment office yet to collect your entitlements? Let me know how that turns out :) I'll be busy tonight working on store #2...

One more thing I would like to add to your point. I think owning your own pharmacy is great b/c working for a chain have the worst job security IMO. When I was at Walgreens they fired a tech there that has been with the Walgreens company for 20+ years! When I worked at Target, they fired the pharmacy manager there! The store was a slow store and they fired her for that.

I don't know the REAL reasons why these people were fired, but I am willing to bet that they were fired b/c the chains are all about saving money and once you have been with them with a long time you are sure to be making more than new people...so that's a great time to fire you and find a cheaper new graduate. I don't feel chains give any job security at all. Its best to work for yourself.

Yes, working for yourself is great...Job security is only there if you provide the service they seek...it's a whole other world in independent pharmacy...

Sorry dude, if you really meant what you said, you would be donating all of your money to charities instead of deciding to pick a car as the sole method of selfish living. It's ok though, the concept is really nice, it's just that most people can't live up to that standard. See, I know a guy who had a tenured professor job with a nice house and brand new BMW. Then he sold it all to move to Romania to start a church. Religiousness aside, that selflessness probably doesn't exist in many pharmacists, yourself included. But if you'd like to argue the merits of not driving a 40k vehicle because of starving children in another country, I'd suggest looking at yourself first.

Still <3 you though.

Well...I once went on a date with a guy that drove a very nice BMW...he was okay looking and I didn't know him. If he was to drive a crappy car I would have most likely turn down a date with him. So a nice car helps some. ;)

Men have nice cars, not because they like nice cars, but because they know women like nice cars. Because men are hunters, and the car's the bait.

And the women comes along and says, "Wooh, nice Porsche."

Gotcha B!itch!

I like the way you think.

Oh yeah, to add to what someone asked earlier about how I'm going to finance it. Asides from working in a pharmacy, I'm considering opening up a hookah lounge/grill + cafe, probably as a satellite version of my friend's restaurant so it would be a partnership.

They pull in about $16,000 revenue every week at that restaurant/hookah lounge. That's about $837,200 revenue per year. I do not know what the costs are though. Since it's in NYC, they probably pay up the ass for utlities, taxes. Worker pay is minimal. Assuming their cost is around $300K, that's $500K of profit/year. One of the owners went to college for business management/finance, worked as a securitization analyst for a year or so, then opened it up with his buddy who dropped out from college.

...and i wasnt comparing cars and socioeconomic problems...i merely was stating how much smarter than me you are...it pains me to admit it.

I know, I know. It's hard to come to terms with.

And to judge me and others who drive $40000 cars when there is starving people and what not...First, those starving and sick people would be DEAD if it wasnt for us douchebags who made all this money to hand over to the government to aid them...

Who says I'm talking about people in this country? Because I wasn't. The poorest Americans are like the richest Ethiopian's wet dream fantasy.

And second, the reason its like that is because the upper class typically
siphon the labor of the lower classes via the abuse of economic leverage. It is patently absurd to think that rich people actually expend labor in value to that in which they are compensated. This typically is in the form of them owning capital and using that to make people give them the value of their labor for less than what it is worth. We are all overcompensated for what we do, honestly. In our case, mostly due to an abuse of the supply/demand market that we rigged in our favor.

It will probably take you a while to wrap your head around that. So you won't. And that's fine, this isn't a philosophy board. Or a pseudo Marxist discussion board.

But to save you the brainpower and time, do know that your entire point is utter bull****; both intellectually and practically.

Not to mention the fact that medicare and medicaid are probably a decent portion of your clientele. It's like a giant, absurd cycle of dependency.

You cant have your cake and eat it to...So i want to drive a $40000 machine; I was fortunate to have an education and I pay my taxes so people like you can get the help they need when you need it...

You ain't in PA. Old Timer can complain about supporting my ass. Not to mention the fact that I paid into it, anyway, (it's unemployment insurance. You have to pay into it to be eligible.) so really I'm just getting it back what I am rightfully owed from buying insurance.

So before you go bashing a so called douchebag, just as you are entitled to your benefits, im entitled to whatever luxury i can afford...

You sure are. It's a free country. And you're free to be a douchebag that drives a $40,000 car while other people are starving. And you are also free to live in denial and pretend that deep down it doesn't make you feel a little guilty. Or be a sociopath that just doesn't give a damn. Whichever it is, that's your right.

But I'm being dead serious. I think about millions of people in Africa that can't buy HIV drugs. People dying in Darfur. Or people in Somalia living under the random whim of a warlord. No clean water...food...nothing. **** ****s with my head. I seriously couldn't own something like that and not feel like a total *******. I think too damn much. I guess its not fair expecting people try to accept my ethical standards...which are pretty much impossible to live up to...especially in this country of our that centers the self around narcissism.

You don't know me or what I do. I'll just leave it at that.

And that professor is a real man. I respect people that don't need material possessions and follow their convictions.

it must hurt to have to bash others to make yourself feel like a part of society...

No, I'm pretty sure I'm a part of society either way. Whatever the hell that means.

To go asleep every night and thinking what a real dickhead you are...

Well, I don't think I'm a dickhead. My momma told me I was a very special boy back in the day, too...so HA.

Anyway, She stated that a car is like your physical appearance...and physical appearances to me mean how you present yourself such as, are you clean shaven, are you fit, are you dirty...etc etc etc...

So she's shallow, then?

No matter how you attempt to sugar coat it, the quality of a persons car making you more attractive to them is humorous...and sad.

and since when are you unemployed? Have you run down to the unemployment office yet to collect your entitlements? Let me know how that turns out :) I'll be busy tonight working on store #2...

Ok. Career is about priority #57 for me. It's apparently #1 for you. I ain't got no use for excess money, honestly. I do like to do **** occasionally. Dave and Buster's a couple times a month. Go sit in the cheap seats at a WVU game. Sneak in a soda or two. I live off of like $850 a month. I saved up $25k before I had to stop working and follow my wife around the entire damned region on rotations...****, I got like $23k in the bank about 9 months later. Catch a per diem shift here and there...hell, I'm fine. Work two days a month and I'm set financially. The luxury of living below your means. The cool thing about owning a cheap ass car and cheap ass home is that they don't own you like a $40,000 car and $500k house do. You can't leave your work and business behind right now or you'd "lose it all." Really, you wouldn't lose anything...just a stupid house and a stupid car.

It would have SUCKED to have taken out a mortgage and bought a $40,000 car back last November or so and have to continue working all that time in one place...not live with my wife for 6 months because her school sent her all over creation. And they sprung it on her with about a month's notice, too.

Seriously...there is an odd peace of mind associated with it. To know that I can just stop what I'm doing and not have to be beholden to the concept that the things I own are beginning to own me.

But don't you worry, I'm going to start my next real job here pretty soon and join the rat race. :(

....

And I still think people that drive BMWs are douchebags just based on the fact that they look like the type of cars that a douchebag would drive. I don't even need the extra **** on top of that.

VW Jettas strike me in a similar way, oddly.

As do Scions.

And the newish VW Beatles.
