Hey guys I thought of arranging the forum a bit by making a thread for each section for NBDE part one.... so if any body got any questions or need help in or got new useful information wana share in Anatomic Science writes here......... :) hope that would make it easy for everybody planning to take part one soon .. (like me  )

i have some questions which i remmember from my previous test but still couldn't get answers for them...so pls help with them...
1. wat causes protraction of mandible??
a. sup head of lat pterygoid
b. inf head of lat pterygoid
c. temporalis
d. medial pterygoid

rest are posted acc to subjects...

also pls tell the explanations
masseter ; Origin -zygomatic arch
Insertion-ramus & angle of mandible
Action-closes mouth
Nerve supply-muscular branch (V3)

medial pterygoid;O-medial surface of lateral pterygoid plate and maxillary tuberosity
I-medial surface of ramus and angle of mandible
A-closes mouth and helps protrude mandible
N.s.-muscular branch (V3)

lateral pterygoid; O-upper head: greater wing of sphenoid
lower head: lateral surface of lateral pterygoid plate
I-upper head: articular disc
lower head: neck of condyle
A-open and protrudes mandible, moves mandible side to side
Ns-muscular branch (V3)

temporalis;O-temporal fossa

Hi,
i know this is goin to sound very dumb but guys i m still confused......here it is said that medial pterygoid, lat pterygoid protudes mandible.......and in 1st page of our this thread......one of our fellow member said ans is temporalis.......i am very confused.....pls help.......thanks

hi reni.

dont get confused.. i was wrong that day...

posterior fibre of temporalis RETURD the mandible.

both leftt and rt lateral pterigoid muscles protude the mandible

anterior fibres of temporalis closes the mouth

MEDIAL PTERIGOID DOES NOT PROTUDE THE MANDIBLE , IT CLOSESTHE MOUTH OR YOU CAN SAY IT ELEVATES THE MANDIBLE

hi dosanjh,
thanks a lot for clearing out this confusion...just one more question...which one plays main role in protusion.........upper head of lat pterygoid or lower head of lat pterygoid???

and also i want to thank confused tooth member.......thanks a lot for that anatomy site...its indeed very helpful in all topics .....

hi can somebody pls post nice explanation for walls of pterygopalatine fossa, infratemporal fossa.....

also, pls help with this:
infratemporal fossa and pterygopalatine fossa communicate via shpenopalatine foramen..........right??? pls correct me if i m wrong........

so, i want to know pterygomaxillary fissure connects which two fossae or cavity????

pls clear my confusion

thanks in advance
reni

Infratemporal fossa and pterygopalatine fossa communicate via pterygomaxillary fissure

Pterygopalatine fossa:
- Superior: communicates with the skull via the foramen rotundum
- Anterior: communicates with the orbit via the inferior orbital fissure
- Lateral: communicates with the infratemporal fossa via the pterygomaxillary fissure
- Medial: communicates with the nasal cavity through the sphenopalatine foramen

which one plays main role in protusion.........upper head of lat pterygoid or lower head of lat pterygoid???

Inferior bellies: contract simultaneously causing the mandible to protrude
Superior bellies: assist in stablizing the articular disc during mouth closing

hi wireless doc,
thanks a lot
There is also another clue to remeber this, remeber the insertion of inferior/lower head of lateral pterygoid is in the articular disc, hence it assists in stabilizing the articular disc during closure.....

Hope this helps

Hi guys,

Do you guys know where is another long thread about part1 question?(combined one)... I am wondering if it is deleted. There is ton of valuable info inside. My friend who just took the test told me he got a lot of questions from it....maybe that's why the webmaster deleted it....

1 A stab wound creating a pnumothorax on the left side will usually result in collapse of which of the following ..
1 . left lung
2. right lung
3. both lung
4. ribcage on both side.
5 . left lung and pericardial sac.

The ans: left lung only. The two lung are seperated.

yes,its left lung.i had asked the same question two days back.

anyone knows these q:

q
venous drainage leads the hepatic portal system of veins in which of the following organs?
testes
ovaries
kidneys
pancreas
suprarenals
[i didnt get what q means???]hepatic potal veins empty into liver and from there hepatic veing take to ivc--heart
what does this imply???

Q calcification of cartilage matrix is proceeded by which of the following events
increased production of protharmone
increased blood calcium
decreased cellular organic phosphate:thumbup: [is this right]
increased chondrocyte alkaline phosphatase
decrease blood magnisium level

Q which of the following connective tissue has prepodrance of ground substance over fibres?
reticular
fibrocartilage
hyaline cartilage[i think this is right]
dense irregular ct
dense regular ct
i know it has to be cartilage coz they have more amorphous ground substance over cells but nt sure fibrocartilage or hyaline ???can anyone tell

which nerve fibres travel throughtout the course of lingual nerve in anterior 2/3of tongue to receive sensory input?which fibres are being talked about???

hey guys ,, please advice how i can read the nervous system???? i cant read it , i dont understand it in general.

please advice

yaaaa i have the same prob and im using a real skull to aid my reivison and it clearly looks like its ABOVE....

DEEEEEEEECKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSS whyyy must u confuse me!?

ALSO, Spinal Accesory nerve.......exits thru foramen magnum or the jugular foramen?? I thought it was the foramen magnum, decks says jugular foramen.

spinal accessory nerve has 2parts, spinal part exits through formen magnum and cranial part through juglars formen.
