This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway. When someone says "orthopedics" or "ortho" are they automatically talking about orthopedic surgeons or are there other types of orthopedic physicians? o_O

ortho = ortho surg

PM&R (physical medicine and rehabilitation) would be the other kind of doc you'd see for non-surgical management of things like joint pains/injuries

PM&R = Physiatrists?

Physical Therapists?
PT is not a physician specialty, it is its own career requiring completely different training (no medical school involved). Sort of like optometry (not a physician) vs ophthalmologist (physician).

Ortho and PM&R = surgical and non-surgical physicians, respectively
PT = non-physician
