That salary is pretty low. I looked up some state tenured professors and found salaries in the low 125ish range.

many OMFP instructors also have private practices in OMFP or OMFP/GP. So take that salary figure with a grain of salt.

This is interesting... Is it really true that a practicing oral pathologist can also practice dentistry after board certification & announcing him/herself as a "specialist"?

I thought that once you became a specialist, you could no longer practice general dentistry and had to limit your practice to that specialty??? Hmmm...

(Is this true for all specialties...for example, can a periodontist practice general dentistry once they became board certified or does this only hold true for pathologists?)

that stat does not mean a damn thing - according to the ADA, in 2008 general dentist who own all or part of their practive made an average of at least $200,000 in every single state. Who do 3 more years of school for less money

Uh, sure it means something, as there are dental students who are considering a career in oral pathology (right now) who may be more interested in the field knowing they will make a certain amount. It may seem like more school for less money to you, but did you ever consider that that does not matter to some people?
