Ya shoulda saddled up a burro instead of flown.... much cheaper and so much more "apropo" for the experience... the presentation of the program and half the interviews are in Spanish :) Nice to see you've been practicing :) Everyone in my program is either bi or tri lingual vs. some of the other things I've been seeing on SDN which makes it look like some programs the residents are bi or tri sexual.....

I noticed you all have an intern. This is a serious question; is your program a "feeder" program. In short, is the first year spot the interns to lose?

I can't wait to hear my boy esclavo's explanation of how carle is definitely not a "feeder" program.

this is again getting annoying.
still have heard nothing
3.3 gpa(highest Gpa 3.8-somewhere in 2nd quantile)

part II 80

internship(2006) at montefiore.

getting upset. getting pissed. seriously what do i need to do with my application to make it better. it looks like the internship is not helping. i know i got good recs from my internship cause i saw all of them.

help. consolation. words of advice. i need it

you don't want to do omfs at montefiore? relax, lay back it's still soon especially if you're talking about new york, they don't send interview invitations till LATE, when does your program send interviews because you're defintely getting that at least... I only heard from 2 so far and they are no where close to the northeast region!! I'm still waiting.

I can't wait to hear my boy esclavo's explanation of how carle is definitely not a "feeder" program.

We started with our intern spot the year following my 1st year of residency (my crappy luck). We took our intern the next year. So it is true that we have taken our intern one time. Since then, we have made the standing policy to not take the intern. We have a really sharp intern, but she is going to have to go else where and she knows it. She didn't even apply here. She has super high board scores, is really smart, and will probably be more qualified that the person we will actually match, but with only one residency spot a year, we don't have the luxury of being able to take our intern like other programs can because they have multiple residency positions. We would get labeled as "feeder" or as I used to hear "home team" program.

Adding New York Medical College 11/29, 12/13 and 12/20

Please add Cook County Hospital by mail
Dates: 11/21, 11/28, 12/5

Anyone coming to Birmingham for an interview, feel free to PM me with any questions you may have. I was in contact with a couple residents from other programs last year via SDN when I was applying (none from UAB, ironically) and it helps paint a more specific picture. I recommend to PM residents from other residencies too for their perspective on their programs... Good luck to everyone!:luck:

Please add Cook County Hospital by mail

Does anyone know about Cook County. I would like to visist, but I am running out of time and money. I had everything booked and set for all my interviews, and then I got a letter today from Cook.

I externed there for 4 weeks. What kind of stuff would you like to know?

Any advice would be appreciated...

I'm booking my flights to go to my interviews but I dont know if I should plan on having diner with the residents before or after. For some programs the secretary told me when they usually take the applicants out, but others they didnt have a clue. I know there's been some posts on that in the past but maybe someone here can give me a idea on what to do...

Also, how many interviews should one go to in order to "guarantee" a spot in one of the programs. I know its impossible to guarantee a spot, and I've also heard that 7 is the magic number. But theres only so many you can attend without deferring all your exams and missing out on your clinical requirements. Personnally I would like to go to all my interviews, but I know that my dental school can be very anal sometimes about quotas, so I'd rather they let me graduate even if that would mean missing a couple of interviews.

Thanx in advance,

anyone heard from these programs yet

Thanx in advance,

I recommend you attend any social events/dinners/lunches that are mentioned in your interview letter or by the secretary. This gives you a good opportunity to mingle with the residents outside of the interview setting. It's also a good time to obtain some information about the program. We take the applicants out to dinner the night before the interviews and then for lunch after the interviews.

As far as number of interviews and programs on your match list, there is no magic number. That being said, I rememeber hearing that about 6-7 programs on your rank list gives you >90% chance of matching somewhere.

UMDNJ notified by phone call and letter last week. Interview is on 12/13.

-- List Update --
When planning your trips watch out for flights that require an airline carrier switch. At some airports you actually have to leave the terminal and go through security again which can make you miss your connection. (eg. Pheonix - from my experience today)
It looks like the next few weeks are going to be pretty busy. Good luck to everyone with travel plans and interviews.

For some programs the secretary told me when they usually take the applicants out, but others they didnt have a clue. I know there's been some posts on that in the past but maybe someone here can give me a idea on what to do... Thanx in advance,

I think you put yourself at a serious disadvantage if you miss out on the reception. As someone mentioned, this is your time to find the real "dirt" about the program and also a good time to see if you mesh well with the residents (they are probably doing the same thing). Plus you get free food and alcohol and it's actually a pretty fun time.

Thanx for the advice everyone.

Yeah I'll try not to miss out on the receptions... how do you find out when they actually take the applicants out when it's not clear on the interview program ? I mean should I just plan on being there the day before even they didnt tell me anything or should I just call and ask the secretary ?

Also, another question that may seem a bit stupid... this one goes out the current residents. What should I wear to this "informal" interview ? I guess I dont need to wear a suit but will jeans give a bad impression to some of the residents ?

Thanx again...

Wear slacks and a decent shirt (polo or button down). Still need to look respectable. Don't give anyone an excuse to blackball you...
