Email them!!! I emailed Maine as soon as I got an email about reviewing my application and thanking them/hoping for a chance for an interview and got a response next day for an interview. Just don't be abbrasive/annoying

1. This is an interesting question. I made a spreadsheet with several categories as follows:

-City location
-cost of living index, PGY-4 stipend (and resultant "buying power")
-Research/educational opportunity/mentorship
-special perks such as C Trop Med offered
-Program reputation/prestige
-quality/cleanliness of hospital/safety reputation
-Gut feel
-personal connection with faculty/personnel
-Weather and overall livability, proximity to culture, etc

2. The idea would then be that you score each category 1-3 with 3 being BEST or Most desirable value and 1 is LEAST, for example, Cost of Living (CA programs would be a 1, programs in the South might be a 3 as they are cheaper)

3. Then, you would add a weight to each category, based on how important it is to you. Multiplying the weight x each category for each program and then a summing up the totals will generate a raw score for each program, to help you rank. Interestingly, I recall doing this for residency, but ended up ranking them based on gut feel overall anyway, LOL.

4. An example is attached. Have fun with it.

This is great. I did something similar, I also added number of fellows ( the more fellows the higher score) as it translates to the network afterwards and less on calls during the program. I am just little concerned how we can " gut feel" through zoom, although I hope that will still prove be accurate as I also rely on that quite a bit.

I also did something similar but included information on public schools as I have two children who will become school age over the course of fellowship. I have also developed a "cheat sheet" of sorts for interview day which includes a bunch of relevant program info but more importantly questions to ask faculty and fellows to try and get more of that "gut feel" we will be missing.

WOW! I am so impressed with the fact that you are going for the fellowship with the kids. It is a dedication! Are you considering 3 year programs as well? I see that in many programs they keep their graduates on the faculty which would be important in order to minimize moves...

I have 15 interviews so far but still waiting for 3 or 4 programs which I am hoping to get invites from.... I think in normal times 10 would be my goal ( they say statistically with 6 programs chances of matching are 99%) but as I am sure programs will interview more broadly I will plan on attending 15 plus/minu 1-2
 
Does anyone feel like this week has been slow in-terms of IVs so far? Also wondering how many IVs people have on-average?
I am and IMG...form a community program in Chicago. Applied to 34 programs, most are medium-tiers..only 8 IVs so far...still waiting on a couple of my top programs. I am really looking forward to be in a place with opportunities for global health. I don’t have solid research or MPH just a few case reports and a QI but my scores are pretty okay. Wondering if I should apply for more or programs.
 
I only have 3 so far, but I applied to only 25...Several places I've applied to haven't been on the list so I'm hopeful but getting more antsy.

So, I'm just going to say it and hopefully won't get insulted. It makes more sense to apply to more programs this year than before. You don't have to worry about travel expenses at all. Plus, you might be surprised by the programs you interview at. Also, you get to become more familiar with zoom interviews.

I honestly think I'm maxed out. I have 14 interviews and I'm not gonna be selfish. Gonna start cancelling/declining interviews to help you guys out. I'm not gonna accept interviews 'just because'.

I think this is fair; Also the programs are putting a lot of effort to arrange everything and its fair to them as well. While it is cheaper this year as there is not time consuming travels it is still not so easy to interview at so many places as it usually takes up the entire day....What are your top choices so far?

Very true. I'm lucky my next rotations are understanding. Clinic/whatever.
Right now:
Alleghany, Vermont, Main, Chicago and Rochester.
I want to get out of NYC lol

That's my eventual goal. If I don't get into id/crit, I'll try for crit afterwards. Regardless, I'd be happy with ID in general. But I do ****ing love critical care

Yeah I don't disagree, I think I was quite focused on global health based programs and somewhat also limited by geography. I will probably apply up to 50 if I don't hear from 2-3 programs by the end of the week. Looking at last years list programs still sent invites up to like 6 weeks since application opening too.
Sorry if I missed these programs on the list but did anyone hear from Tufts, Temple or University of Chicago?

I understand that rationale. People have their reasons, which I completely understand. But if your goal is ID without a clear path except liking/loving it and you don't have a geographic limitation... Then throw caution to the wind. I dropped 2 grand for this application cycle only because I didn't feel like I was competitive and didn't want to spend money again on re applying.
Few people actually like ID. So, if it's what you want, then go for it.
Anywho, hope things work out for everyone. Curious to see the interest after COVID

But if your goal is ID without a clear path except liking/loving it and you don't have a geographic limitation... Then throw caution to the wind. I dropped 2 grand for this application cycle only because I didn't feel like I was competitive and didn't want to spend money again on re applying.
Few people actually like ID. So, if it's what you want, then go for it.

I am waiting from Dartmouth as well, their 3rd year MPH seems to be really great although location is somewhat isolated. Did anyone heard from Boston University or University of Maryland?
