I did not see any links for this, so I started one. I got accepted today (9/19) for the class of 2016. Hello to all my future classmates. My name is Rodney and I am looking forward to learning with all of you.

On a separate note, if anyone else who is accepted is married and has kids, drop me an email. I am interested to know who else has them going into this also and I think it would be good to have others who are in that unique situation to lean on. Again looking forward to meeting all of you.

I am married with no kids, 39 soon to be the big 4-0! My wife is an RN so hopefully she will be able to get a job easily. I will keep my name out on SDN unless you want to pm me. I will post on the facebook page whenever it is established for the class of 2016. Look forward to starting class and meeting everyone. I am big into mountain biking whether cross country or downhill. Love college football too! War Eagle!

Relieved!!:D

Hey yall! I just got accepted today as well! Super pumped! I applied to 3 other schools as well, but I love LMU! I'm just waiting to hear back from the others before I make my final decision. I'm 21 years old, and I'm from eastern Kentucky. GO CATS!! haha Titus, it was so nice to meet you at the interview! I'm really glad we both got in. :) This truly has been one of the best days of my life. This has been my dream for so long, and I'm so excited to get the chance to learn medicine with you all. Cheers to us!!!!

Hello all! I am accepted as well!! :) Paramedic, we interviewed together, I was the girl from MN. Happy to hear you got in! I am waiting on another schools acceptance that is a little closer than TN before I decide. LMU is definitely a top contender though! Congrats to you all! :)

Congrats on being accepted, too! It's so nice to already have an acceptance! I'm still waiting on two other schools before I make a final decision, but LMU is definitely a top choice for me, too! I loved it!

If any of the current students are looking at this forum, I am in need of some help. I am coming down to look at the area with my wife and son to see about living arrangements. I know when I interviewed most of the students who we spoke to lived in the Ball reality duplex and apartment area not far from campus. They even said that it was almost all DCOM students who lived in the complex.

Would anyone be willing to give me an address, directions, or intersection in the subdivision so I can put it in the GPS and come look around the area this weekend? I want to get a good idea about where to look for housing since the wife and child will be coming with me, which makes the university housing out.

Can you PM with information about Ball Reality when you go? My wife and I are also looking at living there, but we're not going to able to go up there anytime soon.

Thanks!!

All you married folk will be in good company...I seriously think half the students here are married, or at least it feels like it lol. But no seriously, it's not an issue support wise. A healthy relationship survives. Lots of people with kids too and some of those students end up being the most well balanced, involved and successful all around.

As for the Kentucky fan I saw, you ALSO will not be alone- GO UK!!! :)

Ball realty may or may not be a good option for a family, fyi. Check it out, but I'd recommend trying to rent out one of the houses. Lots of 2nd years will vacate the area in May/June and SO many amazing houses are available out here, scenery wise. Good luck!!

Thanks, Grace!... except for the UK comment. I'm a Vandy fan.

Seriously, though, I appreciate you helping us out! What do you think the best source is to search for housing there? And when should my wife and I start looking?

Hi everyone ! I just got my acceptance phone call today! I am so excited I wasnt sure I was going to get accepted this year! Is anyone interested in possible roommates?

Hey! I got wait listed last week and got called today to say that I'm accepted! So now I have to choose between DCOM and LECOM! Aaarrrgghh! Any advice?

I interviewed on 12/14/11 & received an acceptance call on 12/16/2011… I was standing in line @ the bank when I answered the phone. I SCREAMED sooooooo loud that security escorted me out of the building… I informed them what just happened and they laughed and let me back inside… everybody in the bank congratulated me & said happy holidays ….etc….. I called everyone I knew and some people I didn't know….

I am soooooooooooooooooo happy! I have worked so hard to get to this point in my life and now I am prepared to work even harder next fall.

KaTONYA87 - did you interview with me?

That's probably the best acceptance story I have heard so far. Haha. Congrats!!! See you in the fall!

Hey Hydro ! I did interview with you my name is Katie!! Im so happy you got in you will keep me laughing ;) add me on facebook if you have one.

Ok, I have decided on LMU-DCOM! I am super excited for school to start and to meet all my fellow students!

Hey there, I just got the phone call today from Robin Lamb and I have an interview set up for February 6th. I was so excited that I almost half-way screamed in the poor lady's ear. She just laughed and said "that's what we like to hear". I have decided not to celebrate just yet because this is just the interview and not an acceptance. I guess my question to those out there is, what was interview day like? what types of questions did they specifically ask? Did you bring a support person with you? and ideally....if they ask you for an interview...what are the real chances of being completely accepted? Thanks in advance for possible responses. I just want this so so SO badly. :) fingers crossed

Oh man.. promised myself I'd never be on this site but just interviewed at LMU on Monday and thought I'd let you guys know what it was like, for any future interviewees. Interview went great, just be human and it will be just fine. They were really great interviewers too. Got asked some ethical questions (although many did not), one of which was on medical marijuana. How about a curve ball! haha :) I think they may have done that because I was being pretty nice the whole time so they wanted to try and draw out some more serious aspects of my personality, but the interview was a great experience altogether.

Anywho, really hope to be heading to DCoM with you guys!! (since they are my #1)

We find out within a week or two. Good luck everyone!!

For housing/apartment openings, check out DCOM DO website below:
http://www.dcomdo.com/classifieds/browse-categories/?category_id=2/ApartmentsHousing

most current houses won't open up until may when 2nd years start to leave, but you should start looking early, because good houses go pretty quick around here.
Also, there are plenty of folks sharing houses, so ask around.
 Also, if you're on FB, use the 2016 class page because housing will get posted there. Otherwise just keep an ear open, ask around. I suggest only renting from Ball realty or from a landlord that has previously rented to DCOM students so you know you're most likely not going to get screwed. Housing is hard here, but it's do-able. Second years won't be moving out until June-ish, so just be patient, keep trying and know that you might be finding something kind of late but that it will seriously all work out okay :)

I got this one too :)

Hi! I am new to SDN, I was wondering when is a good time to find apartments, is June too late? Also, I am from the bay area so we use craigslist.org out here, where would I look up available rentals?

Thanks!

why not the students inn?

they looked pretty damn nice to me

I just got accepted yesterday, joined the Facebook grp, all that jazz. Came here to say, I'm a whiz in Anatomy/Phys, and I'm not in Molecular Biology/Biochem.....so, if anyone needs a study partner for those classes and are good at the other ones, we can make a deal!! Hahaha!! Congrats to everyone, btw!

Too small for married couples like my wife and I. Also, I don't think Xbox live would do well on their Internet.

June isn't too late, but it's edging on it. You'll be able to find something, but it may not be your top pick. Craiglists is an ehhhh option for this area. If you're opting to commute a little, you'll see postings for Tazewell/New Tazewell/Maynardville/La Follette/Jacksboro....those are all within around 30 min or less to school. Other than that, it's dcomdo.com, the FB page, etc that you'll need to work with. It WILL work out though, I promise. Ball realty is also an easy way to secure housing....you really don't even need to come see them unless you're greatly concerned about certain features. Many students have pictures of their apts they'll send you if you ask on facebook.

why not the students inn?

The Inn is "nice" in that it's convenient....everything all wrapped up in one payment that deducts from your refund. However, it's small and if you like to bring your own things, it's just not enough room.

Married couples can't actually live there, just to clarify. At least that was the case in the past.

A 24 is not too low for admittance. End of story. It all depends on the rest of your application though.

Hi Everybody! Just got my call from the dean yesterday and I cannot be more excited to join the LMU community!!

I was wondering if anyone would even think it would useful to fly down and figure out housing...or if it might be pointless at this point in time. (I have a full apartment full of furniture and on campus housing definitely doesn't hit the spot for me)

Anyways hello again everyone! And I wanted to throw out there for anybody wondering...... I have a 24 mcat. And I'm in.

Definitely pointless at this time. How far are you talking about coming? With the way the area is, most of the places you'll consider renting from are going to be places students have lived in and you can very possibly rent a place without ever coming down. For example, first year I rented a house and saw an entire picture tour of it....plus one person living there was going to stay in the upstairs room so I had someone to vouch for the house. It's definitely a challenging process getting housing here, but it's very do-able with some effort of searching dcomdo.com and the FB page. If you really don't want to chance a random landlord, I know Ball realty has openings right NOW that apparently they've been emailing students about in an attempt to fill them. Ball is fine....they have 1 bedrooms and duplexes. They're just your standard run of the mill apts and duplexes....not huge, but they get the job done. And you can confidently reserve one without ever coming to see it....if you ask a student on the FB page, they'll likely post pics of theirs for you. Good luck with the search :luck:

There are new dorms available. Here is the email we got from Dr. Leo a few days ago.

"Dear Students,
At the foot of the DCOM hill, on the campus side, there are two dormitories – Shelton and Langley. These are the existing dorms, not the ones under construction. They have the same design/layout as the Mars and Lee buildings.

Shelton and Langley will be open for DCOM students next year. We are going to designate these two new buildings as "Quiet Buildings." These buildings will be for students who want a quieter environment than the University Inn/Mars/ Lee setting. These quiet buildings will also be alcohol free. One advantage is that you are about 60 seconds from the DCOM building.

If you want to be in one of these quiet dorms stop by our office tomorrow and let us know."

Hey guys! Looking forward to meeting you all. Anyone know if it's difficult to find places that allow pets?

Hey everyone! I'm so excited to be a part of the LMU DCOM community! I just had a question about the "quiet buildings." Are they the same as the undergrad dorms, or are they like the Inn ( i'm sorry I don't remember what the Mars or Lee buildings were!)

I don't know the details about the situation at the quiet dorms but you drove right by the Mars/Lee buildings. That's the two apartment style buildings right next to The Inn. They're basically 3/4 bedroom units with each room having its own bathroom and all of the rooms share a common living area.

I don't know anyone who lives in those, though, so I've never seen photos.

Hi, I just got accepted, and I cannot be more excited!!!!!!!!!!! I am wondering if anyone else on here got in from my interview group. I interviewed on the 28th of February.

Also, does anyone know if there is are townhouse apartments that are close to the university? I have tried looking online, and its really hard to find places to rent!!!! I would like to rent something that has more space than an apartment, but obviously I will be happy with most anything!

Thanks for the advice!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats! Ball Reality has duplex type units and I hear it is almost exclusively DCOM students residing there. I believe it is $765 for a 2bdrm and $550 for a 1bdrm. Be sure to join the LMU-DCOM Class of 2016 facebook page also, as it seems to be lots of talk about housing on there as well. See you in a few months!

Honestly, I went up and couldn't find anything but Ball's apartments/duplexes. Unless you're wanting to rent or buy a house. I just threw a deposit down on a duplex to be done with it. Lol. I think it'll be a nice environment there being around virtually all students.

Hey!! i was just wondering if they called you or if you got just a letter :p

Hi, I got a letter. I was hoping for a phone call though. Apparently, Ray is traveling. The letter was dated for March 2nd, but the envelope was postmarked for March 5th. I live in NC, if that helps you calculate mail time.
