Hello...new guy here...just wanted to know for my first post about the letter of recommendation...is it necessary that you get one from a DO???thanks

Here's how I looked at it: Who better than a D.O. to say whether you have what it takes to complete the education and training. Furthermore, who better than an alumni of the schools to which you are applying to say whether you are likely to succeed there. I don't think (don't know) if any of the schools *require* a letter from a D.O., but I know that some of them STRONGLY recommend at least one. If you don't already have a letter or someone to write one, find a D.O. to shadow for a couple days and ask for one. There is a list somewhere on the AOA site of D.O.s who want to be mentors, or just start cold calling out of the phone book.
Good Luck!

I'd call the admissions officers at the schools you are applying to and tell them your situation and who you had intended to have write for you. I ended up having 2 MD's and a PhD write for me and that wasn't a problem, but I had a good reason.

Dijiken,

Welcome to SDN.. isnt the best?!

So with respect to your question... I think it is safe to assume that every school has different requirements, ranging from no need for a letter of rec from a physician to requiring a letter from a DO... do your research and apply/do new activites appropriately.
