Pt has sensorineural hearing loss in the left ear .What is effected ?
a) 8th cranial nerve nuclei on the left
b) 8th cranial nerve left side
c) auditory cortex right side
d)auditory cortex left side
e)inferor colliculus left side
f) inferior colliculus right side

why do I think there are multiple correct answers here ?

As far as I understand the auditory pathway everything after the cochlear nucleus is bilateral .

There is so much cross talk in the ascending pathways to the auditory cortex that the neurologist lecturing us said that central lesions are virtually never the answer for hearing loss it is almost always peripheral (as you said). As far as nuclei vs the nerve I would choose nerve in that it would be easier to do and much more importantly even at the level of the nuclei it is bilateral (it splits before the nuclei and goes to different ones like the dorsal and ventral ones and what not). The exact names elude me right now but part of the pathway goes to one set of nuclei another to another set of nuclei etc. So the answer is B
