Latest Time to Take Step 2 CK For Apps?

Trying to make for mediocre Step 1, planning on IM. With the date of Sept. 15th in mind for when PDs look at ERAS applications, when's the latest time to take Step II to get it in on time during this first batch of reviews? Like how long does it take for scores to get back and onto the app?

Also, would it be worth the trade off even to have more dedicated study time and take Step 2CK as late as mid-late Sept if it means a higher score but a later complete application? How important is it to be in the first batch of reviews when one has a below average application?

Entire point is just to match IM, no preferences.

A large number of applicants do not have Step/Level 2 results in their application until late October. As a residency director, I prefer the results be available at the time of interview, and accept some might not be available until January.
