Greetings!

We want to inform you of a rare opportunity to obtain exclusive information regarding the future of Interventional Radiology training in the US. As many of you know, the training of future IRs is on the precipice of a major change. With the recent approval of the new DR/IR Dual Certificate, many programs have questioned the need for their existing alternative IR training programs (i.e. DIRECT or Clinical Pathways), and several have unfortunately already shut them down altogether. Other programs have asked what they can do now to prepare for these upcoming changes.

The Resident and Fellow Section of SIR is hosting a Webinar on Tuesday, July 30th at 5:30-6:30 Pacific (8:30-9:30 Eastern) that aims to update radiology program and fellowship directors, residents and medical students regarding the current status of the dual certificate, when to realistically expect implementation, what will be involved in accreditation and what you can do now to prepare your program for the changes ahead. The "Clinical Pathway," our recommended training option in the interim, will also be introduced and described.

Featured speakers include:

John Kaufman, MD - Dotter Interventional Institute at OHSU, Dual Certificate Task Force Leader, Former President of SIR
- Background and rationale for the dual certificate, current status / timeline for implementation and expected necessary requirements for DR/IR residency program accreditation

Saher Sabri, MD - Radiology Program Director, University of Virginia
- Presentation of the structure of UVA's "Clinical Pathway," an ABR-approved alternative pathway for the training of resident planning to pursue IR

Warren Swee, MD - Private Practice IR Attending, Previous UVA Clinical Pathway Graduate
- Discussion of how the clinical pathway better prepares one for a successful career in IR.

Minhaj Khaja, MD - Fellow, UVA, Recent UVA Clinical Pathway Graduate
- First-hand experiences on non-IR clinical rotations as a clinical pathway resident.

Rahul Nayyar, MD - Resident, PGY-4, SUNY Upstate
- Discussion of the "Integrated Medical Student Curriculum," which focuses on radiology involvement in medical student education through all four years of medical school.

Nicole Zimmerman - 4th Year Medical Student, SUNY Upstate; Chair, SIR Med Student Council
- Presenting her data regarding the recruitment advantage given to programs with alternative IR pathways

Kyle Cooper, MD - Chair, Training Pathways Committee, SIR-RFS
- Moderator
