I just received an "Interview Confirmation for Friday, October 14th" email from MD Anderson, but I never received an interview invite from them, let alone scheduled an interview. Has anyone experienced this? I think maybe they meant to send the invite to someone else (probably someone they already invited to interview).

EDIT: They just sent an update saying that it was a glitch haha

They sent out invites for a combined IR/DR and DR interview on those dates. Unclear if there will be a second round based on email.

Has anyone gotten a DR invite separate from the IR invite? I've applied to the same DR programs as IR and I haven't gotten one separately. I'm wondering if this will affect my chances of getting into a DR program I wouldn't mind going to if I didn't get into the IR program. But after reviewing all the invites on the DR forum, I'm wondering if applying to the IR program is hurting me in that regards.

I'm in the same boat. I only received one DR invite from the programs where I did dual applications and that was before their IR program was officially released on ERAS.
 
Added Mount Sinai - Interestingly, they didn't give me a choice of days and just said that my interview will be December 7th haha. FWIW, I updated my contact info in ERAS to note that I now live in Manhattan, 1.3 miles from Mt. Sinai...so maybe that had an impact!

can confirm I got an email too, but I got 3 interview days. (interview both IR and DR). incase they can link back to me, hope its ok if I dont list specific dates. Najiba's date was NOT in my list of date offerings.

A few places I applied sent out invites to me for both DR and IR. One place rejected me DR but I got IR. From what I understand, it would be foolish to pretend like you are interested in DR if your app is geared towards IR. DR PDs know that IR is still an option via ESIR, and they support it - so I do not believe there is any disadvantage. Arguably, it is an advantage because you get 2 shots at matching at the institution you want.

I also had to schedule the interview using the ERAS scheduler even though they only gave me one day. I actually love the ERAS scheduler, makes it so much easier to change dates. Last year's class said they had to email programs whenever they needed to change dates, and weren't sure if any other spots were available.
 
I added my Colorado and USF rejection dates. The USF rejection wasn't sent through ERAS, for whatever reason they emailed directly.

Is anyone here getting invites from DR programs without hearing anything from the IR program at the same institution? I'm curious if still being in the running for an IR/DR invite prevents you from being "passed down" to get just the DR invite.

Mostly just my mental defense mechanisms at work, but I feel like we are in uncharted territory this year
 
I have to think holding a DR invitation can only help your chances at the IR program. I've had several IR invites contact me after the DR had been scheduled for some time and say that there was nothing I had to do, I would interview for both. If you are coming to their institution anyway, perhaps they are more inclined to tack you on to the IR candidate list. Just guessing here, definitely uncharted territory. Fwiw, I do have about 5 DR invites I will cancel if I end up rejected from IR. Anyone else holding onto some DR for this reason?

I'm holding onto all DR invites at programs with ESIR just because of the sheer competitiveness of IR-I. From what I have heard from PD's and others involved in the selection process, IR-I is one of the (if not THE) most competitive specialties in this years cycle. The number and quality of applicants are WAY greater than anyone anticipated.

Yes, I am getting invites from DR programs without hearing anything from IR at the same program. I've also gotten invites for IR at some institutions and rejected for their DR program and vice versa.
 
Sorry for blowing up this thread today, but I had one more question-

Did anyone who got a UW IR invite also get a DR invite? The phrasing of the email and website initially made it sound like the invite was for both programs, but on my second read through I am less sure. Considering emailing the DR program explaining that I would rather go to a great program and do ESIR so I would still be interested in a separate DR interview...

I feel as though a lot of people doing DR just went ahead and applied to the IR programs as well, just cause they were available without any real interest. So of course, there's going to be increased applicants. Not to mention the minor group of surgery kids who want to do IR since it's a direct path now.

Yea, I'm sure that happened, but that was more than likely anticipated by most programs. It should be pretty easy to tell looking at applications who has a true interest in IR. For example, my radiology letters were all from IRs, and all my research is with IR. I'm sure some sneak through the cracks though.
 
Anyone have a guess how many programs on the ROL will be needed to achieve a >95% chance of matching. Is 20 the magic number for something this competitive?

After personally speaking with 4 different PDs for IR-I programs, I do not think there is a reasonable number to achieve that high of a percentage chance, but my optimistic side wants to go with you on 20. I think that is why most program directors (like those that participated in the SIR RFS webinar series) encouraged everyone applying to IR to also apply to DR.

Does anyone know if a DR rejection is basically also a rejection from IR at the institution? I'm wondering if it's safe to assume if I get a rejection letter from the diagnostic radiology department, then I'll probably not be invited for the IR program.

Depends on the program - I can tell you I was rejected from one DR program but got interview at the IR same institution

Anyone receive anything from MCW yesterday? They mentioned in their invite letter that we would receive a confirmation of our requested interview date and interview day information on Friday but I did not receive anything.

nada but they used the ERAS scheduling system (which for me shows confirmed)...so im not worried
