Congrats to everyone for submitting their IR Integrated RESIDENCY application for the 2017 cycle. Let's start up a thread to help each other keep abreast of interview dates. Should clarify this is for the INTEGRATED INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY RESIDENCY (not fellowship). Applications opened on 9/15

Did Washington and Stanford send out interviews or is that just from the website? I believe the point of the thread is to keep track of who has sent out interviews already.

I know one person who has an invite to UW, although he is a student there so he may have gotten special consideration. No idea about Stanford.

I've heard that at least one program received 400 applications. There are only ~125 spots. If those numbers turn out to be true, IR/DR will be the most competitive specialty (based on percentage matched).

maybe stupid question but given that the above programs don't have a TON of interview dates...I wonder if those programs have sent out their quota of interview requests? What is the October 1 MSPE going to tell them that they don't really already know? ::Nervous::

One program director told me that most programs will send out their invites on Oct 1st. They've already selected who they'd like to interview. They just wait for the MSPE to see if there is anything terrible haha

Depends on the program, some websites say they are only interviewing 25-30 candidates so I don't imagine they'll need more then 3 or 4 dates to do that. If programs plan on interviewing more than that I'm sure they'll have more dates.

Added Rochester General Hospital - I just got an interview invite from them. They are using a new app called 3rdFriday that doesn't work from your desktop (mobile only). I tried for about 10 minutes to register using my laptop, with no luck. By the time I realized I had to download the app all of the interview spots were full. I saw a brief glimpse of the dates, one was in Nov. and one was on Dec. 8th. I can't remember the exact day of the Nov interview and it doesn't look like the app will show interview dates that are full.

The dates are the same as the DR dates and you interview for both on the same day if you applied for both. 11/17 is one of the dates. You forgot the part where they encourage you to upload a 30second selfie video into the app to get to know you!

Quick question for all, although maybe it's a little late to be asking this. When you guys applied for integrated IR, did you also apply to the DR program of those same places?

The idea of being a DR resident but not the "IR chosen one" made me nervous so for places with IR, I generally refrained from applying to their DR program (with the exception of some of the 17 IR programs that listed themselves after 9/15). The reason I ask is the following...

Hofstra listed IR late so I had applied to the DR program. I got an invite for the DR program which stated it would include the IR interview if I applied to it also (I confirmed with them I was guaranteed an interview for both even though the invite came from the DR application). Not sure if DR people are serving as the "gatekeepers" to the IR interview...

In contrast, I got a Rochester General invite having only applied to the IR. Same with UPMC (although I have a personal connection at UPMC so my selection for interview was very atypical and didn't necessarily happen the same as it would for other interviewees).

For URochester, I applied to both but only heard back from DR (they made no mention of IR interviews).

I applied to both DR and IR at UT-Houston (they listed IR late) and when I got the DR interview invite, they stated they will make a separate selection for IR interviews.

So it seems like all programs are not approaching it the same way so I got a little confused/ paranoid about not applying to corresponding DR programs at all the IR places I applied to. So I guess my question is did you guys apply to DR at the same places you applied to IR? Do you think it was imperative to do this?

I struggled with this too when applying. But I heard some discussion about not applying to both shows them you're not interested in the institution itself but just the specialty. So I went ahead applying to both for every IR program I applied to. It was very costly :dead:

And thinking about it retrospectively, I think it really depends on how closely the DR and IR programs work together at an institution. Many IR programs are working closely with the DR program (probably because it's hard to coordinate a completely separate process so quickly) for the interview process making it probably beneficial if you applied to both. But some places seem to do their own thing. I just didn't want to risk it and just applied to both.
 
I applied to all the DR programs at places with IR. The way I saw it, I could go on x number of interviews but have 2x programs to rank. Currently have 10 IR invites and I will probably cancel some of the extra DR i currently have if I can get 20 IR.

I applied for IR/DR at 52 of the 59 integrated programs. I also applied to 18 DR-only programs and 23 preliminary surgery programs. It was a lot of money and I have 3 DR/IR interviews thus far. My application focuses heavily on computer science (I wouldn't have it any other way :)) and my step 1 score isn't the highest.

I did not apply for DR at any of the 3 DR/IR programs that have offered me an interview. Of the programs that I applied to for both DR and IR/DR, NYU is the only program that has already sent out invites (I didn't receive one for either program).

Awesome. I applied in a very similar fashion to you and also have 3 IR/DR invites so far (the ones I listed). Just wanted to make sure that not applying to the DR didn't totally mess me over. good luck to you!
