Importance of research in residency placement

Hey all,

I will be attending med school next year but during the glide year I'm working on a few papers. But this is taking pretty much the remainder of the year.

I understand that step I is probably the most important but I was wondering if the research that I am doing right now is going to factor in at all during residency applications, or if it's only research undertaken as a medical student that matters.

Kind of like how highschool activities had negligible influence on medical school placement.

Any medical research you do will help. Just continue to do some during school so that it shows your continued interest.
