It might have been in the past. I know a retina specialist who switched to full-time refractive surgery maybe ~20 years ago when refractive surgery was booming and now wants try to get back into doing medical retina because he can no longer find enough refractive patients. Similarly, ~7 years ago my friends in radiology couldn't find jobs and now there's a severe shortage of radiologists. Times change and sometimes the job market seems cyclical.Becoming a well known, highly paid LASIK surgeon is probably not as common as becoming a highly paid retina doc.
