Hello,
I was wondering how state of residence is evaluated by medical school admission committees?
For example, if you come from a state that is normally not represented in the class profiles, will that increase your
chances for acceptance due to added geographical diversity to the class?
Not necessarily, and probably not.
Schools usually either recruit for people from that state (sometimes due to requirements per state funding for a public school), or they are private and have no ties, and thus will take the best of who they see apply/interview.
Some may like to have some geographic diversity, but I'm doubtful that one applicant will be selected over another applicant just because they haven't had someone from that state before/currently. They're still going to go off of grades/scores/ECs and the interview.
