I did back in the day. I was planning to wait a year, but then OSU pushed back their deadline to its current position, so I went for it. I wanted to take extra time to ensure a good OAT score (which luckily I got), and was prepared to wait a year (but luckily I didn't have to). Don't worry about whether or not you get in on your 1st try. If you need to wait a year, you'll be that much more prepared/experienced. Applying the 2nd time around will be much easier for you, and you'll be a more mature student as you start in on the first year curriculum (which will definitely be an advantage).
if your applying with a 4.0 gpa/400 oat score and you get rejected, then the adcoms are racist, sexist or stupid. (assuming you actually have an interest in optometry and there are seats available)
