Hi,

I am a fourth year med student that is applying for ER residency . I am scheduled to start my ortho elective next week and would like advice on what book to acquire. Preferably, I would like a book that is portable enough to bring with me with a decent amount of detail. Any advice?

Thanks

I'm a big fan of the "Secret Series". It is written in a question and answer format, but with more details of how and why than surgical recall. They have an orthopedic secrets text for about $30. If you read the chapter on a particular topic and know your anatomy from netters, you should be able to nail the majority of pimp questions thrown at you.

If you want to take it to the next level, add the Handbook of Fractures by Koval and Zuckerman. This book lists criteria and classification for every type of fracture as well as recommended treatment options.

Best of luck.
