I'm applying to MHA programs and am starting to hear back about interviews, I wanted to start a thread to compare hearing back about interviews/acceptances, etc.

Applied to:
UWashington
Rush
VCU- Invited to Interview
Georgetown

I'm starting to hear back as well! I sent in my applications mid/end of October so I expected to hear back somewhat early but it looks like things are just rolling in!

Applied to:
Johns Hopkins
Tulane- offered acceptance and scholarship
Georgetown
Cornell- Invited to Interview
GW- Invited to Interview

Good luck to everyone!

My HAMPCAS went out to schools October 3rd- I was going crazy not hearing anything for a while! VCU just sent me an email invitation to interview last week. I want to hear from Georgetown and Rush! Congrats on Tulane!! That's so exciting you already have an acceptance and scholarship!

My stats are:
Biology Bachelor's and Masters
Working at Riley Hospital for Children as a Program Coordinator
Good GPA and GRE, but not super high.

Wow, congrats on the VCU interview, that's a great school. I spoke to a student in the Georgetown program a couple days ago and he said that Georgetown doesn't start reviewing applications until January- but once they do the interviews occur around mid/late Jan. and then acceptances go out.

I applied to Cornell, Xavier, UNC and Scranton in early november. I haven't heard back from any of them yet. I have a good GPA and GRE scores but nothing spectacular. My work experience is pretty solid for coming straight from undergrad and I have several hours of volunteering.

Good luck to everyone!

Oh and I'm considering submitting an application to Georgetown, but I'm not sure about that yet.

I have applied to Yale, Michigan, Tulane, Boston University, and South Florida.

Accepted to Tulane with a scholarship, and I was invited to a 'student day/ interview' at Michigan.

Andddddd... all i've heard from the others is that they have received my application.

LexMHA- thanks for letting me know Georgetown doesn't start reviewing for a while- good to know, a little frustrating when you get your apps in early, but I can relax over the holidays at least.

A few weeks ago I contacted the other schools just to make sure they all had all the correct parts of my application- georgetown actually first told me "what application? we don't have yours" I called HAMPCAS, they had sent it out two months ago, emailed georgetown again and she was like "oh wait, there it is" Thanks for the panic attack georgetown.

Hey guys,

I submitted my application to schools late October.

University of Michigan - Invited to interview
University of Minnesota - Invited to interview
Columbia University (MPH) - I've heard nothing from them
Boston University (MPH) - They are currently reviewing my application

I only applied to 4 schools becasue these are the only ones that really appeal to me. No sense in wasting time applying elsewhere. I'm crossing my fingers to get into these great schools! Does anyone know when applicants will hear from Columbia? I've heard early March... that feels like it's so far away.

Does the Georgetown reviewing in mid-January apply even for priority deadline?

As far as I know, yes-- I applied way before the priority deadline and was told was that the first time the admissions committee meets is end of December at the very earliest. Hope that helps!

Hi all,

It's great to see some are already being invited to interviews.

I've submitted apps to:

UMich
JHU
Cornell

I probably shouldn't say it, but JHU is currently my top choice. Now for the wait. Good luck everyone!

Just got into Cornell and GW today! Couldn't be more thrilled =)
Still waiting on the other schools, but getting excited about the future!

Hi all,

Just sent in all my apps last weekend. I applied to:

1. JHU
2. Cornell
3. Minnesota
4. Georgetown
5. VCU
6. Ohio State
7. Rush U

Obviously haven't heard back since I just submitted. Can anyone give me an idea on how long it typically takes to receive a request for an interview?

Thanks!

I just got an interview invite from Rush, but I applied in early October, and they didnt start reviewing I think until mid-November, then I was waiting on a new set of GRE scores. It depends when they meet to review apps.

Congrats on the interview request, Rush has an awesome program. Also, when's your interview for VCU? I'm curious to know how it goes.

BTW my stats are as follows (I always like looking at other people's stats so I thought I'd post 'em):

3.55 GPA, Economics Major
770 GMAT, was thinking about MBA with concentration in HC but decided against
1 year working for healthcare research and consulting nonprofit and some administrative volunteer experience in a research lab

Waiting for responses is going to suck!

My VCU interview is January 18th, then Rush is January 25th

Just got an interview at Georgetown! Now just waiting on Hopkins.... the only one left to hear from!!! SO excited though.

Got an interview at Georgetown (Feb 4th), just waiting on UWashington which doesn't do interviews :/

Hey!
I got accepted at the University of Pittsburgh's MHA program and as of yesterday I received an invite for interviewing with Georgetown (Feb 11th).
I notice that Pittsburgh doesn't seem to be an option for most of you and I was wondering why. I felt that they had a great program and great external relations. I am confused between Georgetown and Pitt. Can anyone shed some light on the comparison between the two? Both seem great to me, but I am leaning a bit more towards Pitt because of UPMC and the fact that they offer an extended 16 month residency.

I think Pitt has an excellent program, but I don't like the Pittsburgh area. Call me crazy..I just think its a personal preference and I've never liked it since I looked at U-Pitt for undergraduate. Congrats though!

@hopefulMHA
I only applied to places I knew I wanted to live, and pittsburgh (like mrcoolthefool) wasn't an attractive option to me.

Also I got an email from BU saying I have been accepted for the MPH in Health Policy and Management with a merit award. BU has a Healthcare Management Specialization within the HPM concentration. Any idea how the job opportunities and future with an MPH in Healthcare Management may differ from an MHA? I think BU is better than Pitt and Georgetown?

HopefulMHA- I would look at how the curriculums differ, hopefully it's not too far off. The only thing (and this might not even be a problem) is when you enter your credentials into online applications if it says you need an MHA would an MPH be okay? Do they market it as being the same as an MHA?

I've wondered this a lot and I did some research a little while ago. Here's a quick summary of what I found.

Many times schools that offer MPHs with an HPM concentration don't have a strong alumni network or allocate enough of their resources to the particular concentration. This often results in weaker colloquia, less post graduate opportunities/connections, etc. Now, I have NO idea if this is the case with BU because I don't know anything about their program. It might not be. It is the same sort of thing with MBA with health care concentration programs. You never really know if they care as much as they should about the particular concentration as there are others pursuing the degree for its original purpose.

A friend of mine got his MBA with a health care concentration and landed a competitive fellowship which led to a job offer. He's very successful!

All of the administrative fellowships that I've researched say its permissible to apply with an MHA, MPH, MPA or MBA so I can only imagine that the same goes for actual jobs.

Applied:

UNC (MHA)
NYU (MPA)
GWU (MHA)

Anyone know when UNC interview offers will be announced?? I applied for the early (Dec. 1) deadline and thought I would have heard by now.

Good luck everyone!

No idea about UNC-- sorry! I actually had my own question about hearing back...has anyone heard from Hopkins' MHA program yet? They're the last school I'm waiting for and the wait is killing me!

I actually got an email from UNC less than an hour after posting that...weird. I'm planning to interview on February 4th. Anyone else interviewing there?

I will be interviewing there as well, but I have not picked a date yet. I have heard that UNC is more policy-based rather than operations-based. Have you heard anything more about that or the program in general? Good luck on Feb 4th!

Cool! And thanks! Their health policy and management program has two tracks - the MHA and the MSPH. The MSPH is very much policy focused but the MHA is similar to most other MHAs from what I can tell...very business/operations focused. I know a couple alumni of the MHA and they work in consulting and operations.

I also haven't heard anything from JHU yet, though their's was the first application that I submitted and I've been invited to interview at all but one (Cornell - haven't heard yet either) of the schools that I applied. I find it hard to find posts from people who have interviewed with them though.

Ah, that makes me feel better! I submitted JHU in beginning of November with the rest of my apps and have heard back from all except them. I heard back from Cornell about an interview on December 12th and was admitted the following week. Cornell's interview was more social than anything else, they asked why I wanted an MHA, why I wanted to go to Cornell ... nothing too crazy. Lasted less than 30 min all in all. Hope that helps a little!

What accounting class is everyone else taking for the prereqs? Since I was a bio major, I didn't take any of the econ, stats, accounting prereqs so I"m taking them now. Looking at VCU's website, it requires financial accounting- did everyone take this or just regular accounting?

Is JHU your number 1? Also, I noticed that a lot of you didn't apply to Minnesota. Is there a reason for that? I thought that their program looked amazing and they are definitely my number 1.

I didn't apply to Minnesota because I didn't think I'd get in..haha

Katertot-- I'm currently taking Intro to Financial Accounting as a prereq. That course was specifically required by GW and Georgetown, and I'll definitely be taking it in whatever grad school I attend so that's my reasoning for taking that.

And to Lsata-- JHU is definitely my first choice. I didn't apply to the program at Minnesota or Michigan simply because of geography. I'm currently studying in DC and have personal reasons for staying in the area that kind of go hand-in-hand with the fact that the job opportunities here are pretty great. So really my choice was really fueled by location more than anything else.

Thanks a lot mrcoolthefool and KaterTot! That does help!
I am most probably picking BU because the one and a half year course + the merit award will make it easier on the bank account.
+ BU is a pretty great school with a strong alumni base so the points you raised mrcoolthefool shouldn't be a problem hopefully *fingers crossed*.
Hopefully no further confusion out there for me.
All the best you guys with your decision!

It really depends on your overall application including SOPs, Reccos etc.
Your stats seem decent.
In my opinion you have applied to quite a few top programs!
Maybe applying to 1 or 2 mid level programs would ensure you get in somewhere for sure.
However, hoping for the best, you shouldn't have an issue.
Just hang in there. The universities will contact you when they receive your application.
When did you send your application through anyway?
It often takes from 1-2 months after a deadline to hear back from the university.

HAMPCAS processed my application on 1/16 and cornell univ applic on 1/4...........
can you please let me know some mid level programs.......

Hi everyone, I haven't read anything about MUSC on this thread, but has anybody applied to or heard back about an interview from Medical University of South Carolina? This is the only MHA program I applied to because of geographic reasons. Just curious if anyone has heard anything yet or whether they have started scheduling interviews.

Thanks, and good luck to you all!

So I've already gotten accepted in my #1 program....I'm debating cancelling my georgetown interview- it's cutting it really close with my deadline to reply to my acceptance offer, georgetown is ranked lower, high tuition, I have to fly out there, etc. Thoughts?

JHU FTW!
I definitely wouldn't wait on Georgetown if I was in your place.
I think go ahead and seal the deal :) .

Thanks Hopeful! VCU gave me an acceptance on the day of my interview, it's hard to turn down a top 5 program. I still have my Rush interview tomorrow, and they know about my VCU acceptance, it will be a tough decision if they offer me acceptance as well!! I think I definitely will be cancelling my georgetown.
