Greetings,

My French girlfriend is currently in her fourth year of medicine in France. At the end of her sixth year (which is when French students go on to do their internships), she would like to come to England to do her internship, with a view to practicing in the UK. I have done some research and, as a member of the EU, it is very much possible for her to apply.

However, I have not yet found any information as to the odds of her being accepted on a foundation program. In other words, how many places are there on foundation programs and how many applicants are there? Beyond this, are British students given priority on these places over students from other EU countries?

Not being a medicine student myself, I have no idea how it works, but I do know that in Law for instance, there are far more applicants than training contracts.

Finally, years down the line, once one is fully qualified, how difficult is it to get a job as a GP or a specialist? Does it depend on the specialty? In France, there is a "concours" at the end of medicine studies: the highest placed students get priority as to their first choices, but in the end, everyone who passes is guaranteed a job. This, I believe, is not the case in the UK.

I would be most grateful for any help you can offer me. On that note, I hope that you'll enjoy the rest of your weekend :)
