Curious what others have seen in terms of flaps, grafts, and skin substitutes, particularly for diabetic foot wounds? What have you seen work well, what do you pass on to plastics, and what products have you seen (or used) successfully? Feel free to cite articles or personal anecdotes. Students, residents, attendings please add your input.
With the diabetic population we work with, a surgeon who is skilled at flaps and grafts is worth his/her weight in gold, in my opinion. Wound care and limb salvage may not be as sexy as TARs, pilon fractures, and ex-fixes but it's as important and much more common, IMO.
