Elective in Dubai-help!

Hello everyone

I'm a fourth year medical student in Manchester, UK. In the fifth year of our degree we have a chance to study a specialisation of our choice anywhere in the world, not only to learn more about the specialisation, but to experience medicine in different cultural and socio-economic surroundings. Our elective lasts for 8 weeks and we decide what our learning objectives should be.

Several friends and I have decided that we'd really like to come to Dubai for our elective, and I was wondering if anyone here could help with contacts. I have tried emailing the department of health, but no one has replied. I think one of my friends has also tried emailing Dubai Medical College for Girls, but they haven't replied either. I have looked at some of the hospitals in Dubai on the internet, and I would really like to spend my time at the Emergency Medicine department at the Rashid Hospital, but any names and contact details of anyone at any hospital in Dubai would be useful for me.

I hope someone out there can help!

same here buddy. I'm a US student and I wanna do an elective in dubai also but havent had any luck. PM me if you get any luck finding anyone in dubai

Why anyone would want to do an away rotation/externship in that part of the world-at least at this point- is beyond me. I'm a US student who has spent several years in the UAE. The only potential opportunity is probably a long way coming:most likely after the completion of the Dubai Health City in 2010 which is projected to be a prominent medical center in the region and will incorporate a teaching hospital. As a former resident, I would submit to you that the Rashid hospital (and others) while providing good patient care, are at best mediocre when it comes to teaching-they are simply not equipped to do it. Anyway, good luck wuth your endeavor..I would run a search on "dubai health city" and pursue it further..

ok well thanks for advice, one of my lecturers worked in UAE, and he loved it there, so i still want to go there. still haven't had response from anyone. surely someone reading this must know people working in dubai? pleeeeeeeease somebody help! real ruby, will let you know if i find anything.

Dubai is a phenomenal city... I was just there for the new years with my fiancee (it has been my fifth time there) and we had a blast... Everyone there speaks English and when the Health City is complete it will be an awesome place to work... With me being of Arab descent (able to speak and write Arabic) I hope to land a job in Dubai as a US physician.... Definately try the Rashid Hospital and there is a great American hospital there as well...
