Wow, I'm pretty freaked out about this flooding going on in DM. Anyone think the school or the school area is in any immediate danger from the flooding? The school is not in the flood plain from the diagram I found on the Des Moines Register but it obviously isn't 100% accurate on the current conditions.

I'm pretty sure the school is up high enough to where it will be OK.

I live in Des Moines and will be starting DMU in August. The flooding is really bad in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City (about 2 hours East of Des Moines), however the flooding is very minor in Des Moines at this point. (Cedar Rapids has about 20,000 people now homeless). A lot of businesses have water in their basements in Des Moines, but nothing major around DMU. I live pretty close by and the river which flooded (Des Moines River) is about 3 miles East of the campus. There is some extensive flooding on the north side of town, but nothing affecting DMU, and the water levels are now receding slowly throughout the state. See you all in August!

Hopefully by now, your fears have subsided. But, remember, DMU is on a hill. It wasn't affected at all. One of my friends is in the PA program there, and she told me that they had no clue downtown was even being evacuated because they spend so much time on campus. Nothing to worry about!

just picked up the uhaul and am packing it up tonight with the fam's help. we gotta wait until about 9 o clock so its cool enough to not pass out lol. will be on the road tomorrow (stoppin at a casino hotel for the night in kansas city with my parents and brother) and then will pull on into DM friday morning. cant wait to meet you guys/gals. we all gotta get together for my bday july 30th... maybe well move it to August 1st so itll be a weekend

Yeah- move it to the weekend so I can go!
