Hi all,
I have several questions regarding the PHAP Program, but first I want to provide some background info.
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology completing ~146 total semester units and finishing with a 2.96 cumulative GPA (as calculated by Berkeley, PharmCAS GPA is ~2.8) I am very interested in becoming a pharmacist, however I feel that my low GPA is going to be a huge setback and therefore would like to raise my GPA by taking additional classes and perhaps repeating some undergraduate classes that I did not perform so well in.
This brings me to the question of whether it is reasonable to attend the post-bacc program under the Academic Enhancer track. Because the amount of semester units taken at Berkeley is so high, it is going to be exceedingly difficult to pull up my cumulative GPA, thus I would have to take a large number of courses in order to improve my academic standing. At $383/ unit, that amounts to a very expensive endeavor. If my memory serves me well, I would need to complete ~60 semester units in order to bring my cumulative GPA to a ~3.2 which is ~90 quarter units (anything above 60 semester units seems unrealistic to me). This amounts to ~$35,000 solely in tuition fees.
I know I can excel in a tight-knit evironment with a great support network (these are two aspects that I unfortunatley did not experience at UC Berkeley) and I do not mind taking out loans in order to fund the program so long as I know that there is a a chance that I can still be accepted to pharmacy school.
What do you guys thingk? Is it worth a try? Also, those who are already in the program, how are you financing your education? I currently have ~$28,000 in Direct Loans from my undergrad, so I want to know what my options are.
Thanks so much!
