USC has a white coat ceremony during orientation week for incoming 1st yrs.

Hey guys..i thought the white coat ceremony was for when you graduate dental school....? is it actually when you start?

Sonigee,

To the contrary, the White Coat Ceremonies are in the beginning of your professional education symbolically stating that you're on your way to be a Health Profession! It's kind of saying, "good job, you made it to medical/dental/Pharmacy school!" type of thing. The school that I go to now, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) did their White Coat Ceremony during the 4th week into the first semester first year and Nova College of Dental Medicine will do my White Coat Ceremony on the Sunday before our first class on Monday! It's a great event to invite family and friends! I can't wait for mine!

Tufts did their first white coat ceremony this week. It was for second year students... symbolizing that they can see patients i suppose...

Meharry Medical College also has a white coat ceremony, but in our Sophmore year before we go to the clinic.

what year does university of pacific have theirs?

When you graduate dental school you get hooded. That is supposed to welcome you to the profession. We get hooded the day before the actual graduation.

what do you mean by hooded?

A person with the same degree, usually faculty or a mentor places a "sash" around your neck, over the graduation gown.

does anyone know if Columbia has a white coat ceremony?

Case Western Reserve University has a white coat ceremony at the beginning of the 3rd year during the summer session.

Creighton's is during the orientation week before the start of the first year. Since we see patients at the hospital, patients and the preceptor clinics for HnPs, and attend Grand Rounds at the Hospital, we need to have our "uniform" for the first year.

is the coat ceremony at UOP for 1st years or 2nd years?

VCU has a white coat in the middle of the first year. It should be fun!!!

Columbia holds the ceremony for incoming 1st year students(colleagues) within the 1st month.

UW first year dental students are given a welcoming symbol of sorts. Their lockers are located in the basement of the dental school on floor D-1 (that's minus one). Cute huh?

Because Case started the sealant program for the 1st years, to accommodate early interactions with patients they have moved the ceremony so that it will now be held during orientation period.

i could be mistaken, but i am pretty sure that pacific's white coat ceremony is on matriculation day, 1st year. There are no other students at school that day. it is on friday and classes officially start the following monday.

UOP's white coat ceremony is given before you start your 2nd year in July.

At my interview, i was told you have it at the end of the second year.

The White Coat Ceremony experiene is actually one of the things about dental school that i am VERY looking forward to. I think it is a very nice way to be welcomed into the profession.

Aphistis or someone who knows, does IUSD have the ceremony?

i haven't gotten anything from them and so i have no idea what is in store for new comers there. all i know is that i will be getting more info about the labtop, finaid, and vaccines in the next 2 months and that our orientation is on july 6,7. would have been better if i knew a little sooner than that.
