Clinical Research Volunteer Opportunity​

2 volunteer positions available for medical students seeking part-time clinical research experience

Our mission is to bring access to cutting-edge therapeutics to patients in need. We leverage electronic medical record (EMR) data from a network of healthcare organizations to match patients in need of advanced treatment options with appropriate clinical trials.

Under the direct supervision of Dr. Christopher Ochner,* Research Associates will receive the following training and have the following responsibilities:

Training

• Detailed insight into the clinical trial process
• IRB, HIPAA and Common Rule regulations for clinical research
• Extraction and interpretation of patient-relevant information from clinical trial protocols
• The process of patient approach and screening for clinical trial eligibility

Responsibilities

• Utilizing the Modern Trials platform to search EMR data for patients who may benefit from particular clinical trial opportunities
• Helping to ensure adherence to IRB, HIPAA and Common Rule guidelines
• Patient outreach and screening per trial inclusion and exclusion criteria
• Following and providing feedback on the patient approach and screening protocol

* Columbia University and NIH trained, Dr. Ochner holds a PhD in clinical psychology, an MS in biostatistics and an MBA with a specialization in healthcare management. He is an expert in clinical trials, data analytics, and HIPAA and Common Rule regulations. His experience includes serving as faculty at Columbia University and Division Director of Research for HCA, CEO of a $55M medical research organization, and Founder & CEO of a consulting firm for clinical research. He has secured multiple NIH awards to support medical research projects, published dozens of scholarly articles and has regularly appeared in the media, including Good Morning America and World News with Diane Sawyer. After losing his mother to cancer in 2017, Dr. Ochner co-founded Modern Trials with Dr. Alex Logsdon to bring clinical trial access to patients in need across the US.
