There have been a decent amount of new programs popping up recently and with starting at a new program there are some challenges. I am considering some of the newer programs this year and was looking for advice from those of you who have been through the ground breaking years at your new programs.

What type of things do the teaching faculty expect from you as the second and third classes are added?
What type of qualities are faculty looking for in a good first year class?
Are there a lot of politics involved?
