Edit: Ugh, formatting always messes up for me on SDN for some reason. Here is a link to a better formatted version on Google Docs.

I am Exercise Physiology major and Psychology minor. Former Nursing student, quit during winter break following Fall 2010.

Stats:

  • FLs: Kaplan 22, 24 six-eight months ago. AAMC3 29 one week ago
  • MCAT: May 31 planned, likely to postpone.
EC's:

  • Non-clinical (461 hours):
    • 1 week mission trip during high school
    • 156 hours biweekly volunteering for church's nursery
    • 98 hours weekly volunteering for church's 2-3yo Sunday School class
    • 45 hours soup kitchen
    • 162 hours tutoring gen chem, ochem, physiology, english
  • Clinical (204 hours):
    • 4 hours hospice
    • 200 hours clinical rotations during nursing major
  • Shadowing (78 hours with planned):
    • Primary care - 8 hours + 20 future
    • Orthopedic - 6 hours
    • Sports medicine - 24 hours
    • Family practice - 20 hours
  • Research (80 hours with planned)
    • 40 hours helping with study. Interviewed, set up room.
    • 40 more hours planned for the summer
  • Work (~70 hours)
    • 30 hours babysitting
    • 40 hours at child development center, substitute TA

I am taking 3 more courses over the summer to graduate. 2 science (exercise physiology and ochem lab II) and 1 research.

So basically I am planning on applying to all med schools in Ohio since I am in-state. I am also in the process of setting up a DO shadowing with a doctor I know who may be able to give me a DO LOR. I am submitting my application June 1st, so it will be verified by the time my MCAT score is submitted.

Are there any schools I might be competitive for out of state? What are my chances over all? Can I do anything during my one year break? The plan is to graduate in August, go to Europe September - December. So I will have the rest of the year to improve my application, retake the MCAT if needed.
