Can your med school or residency programs look through your pesonal medical file?

and if so, do they ever use it's contents against students or residency applicants? sorry if this is a terribly stupid question, and i'm hoping i know the answer, but i wanted to ask anyway. gracias.

No, they can't do that. That's absolutely privelaged information.

God I hope not! I think Privacy Acts and HIPAA should cover this. Just because we're going onto the "other end" of the protection clauses doesn't mean we lose our rights when we are patients ourselves. Also, if there is something you are worried about...you can probably discuss this w/ your physician. I hear ya, I am a lil worried too.
