While I don’t know anyone personally, this theoretically very well could happen and is spelled out in the match rules.

That being said if you have an application strong enough to land an advanced anesthesia spot as an IMG you should have no trouble scrambling into a surgical prelim spot. It might be malignant but oh well it’s only a year. You should be working on that yesterday.

I have known an IMG lose his advanced spot because he got fired from a prelim spot.... sad story
