Program for Medical Students NEW!
Understanding PM&R: A Medical Students Guide to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Saturday, October 29
9:30 amNoon
Philadelphia Marriott Hotel
Medical student interest in PM&R is growing, but exposure to the specialty is still limited. According to the US Bone & Joint Decade, fewer than half of the nations medical schools require coursework in musculoskeletal medicine and others offer little or no opportunities for students to learn about the specialty. This program has been designed for medical students with an interest in learning more about physiatry and musculoskeletal medicine.
Leading PM&R physicians will provide an in-depth look at the specialty through case vignettes, general practice information, and their own PM&R residency experience. Medical student mentors from AAPM&R and residency program directors will also be available to answer questions and to connect with students following the program.
This program is free to all medical students and includes a complimentary breakfast. Since this is strictly an informational presentation, CME credits are not available.
Limited Attendance
Registration is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, medical students will be able to:
*
differentiate a physiatrist from other physicians treating musculoskeletal conditions;
*
describe typical practice settings and conditions commonly treated by physiatrists;
*
outline residency, education, salary and lifestyle considerations; and
*
evaluate whether PM&R is a good personal and professional fit.
