Re: OTC Graduate Certificate in Oral Health

I would like to inform you that as of January 2008 the OTC program will be an accredited program delivered by DHSV at The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. Upon completion of the 20 week clinical course students will be awarded a Graduate Certificate in Oral Health from La Trobe University. As such, the certificate will carry with it the benefits of studying under the auspices of an Australian University.

It is to be noted that the ADC clinical examination is still required to be undertaken in order for candidates to register as a practising dentist in Australia.

This exciting development is the first of its kind in Australia and will give Overseas Trained Dentists the opportunity to broaden their experience and qualifications in Australia.

The program will continue to be an upfront full fee paying course and attract a fee of A$21,500

Documents you must include
To support your application, you will need to provide certified copies of all documents listed in the Checklist Section of the application form. Certified copies of the following documents must be submitted.

1. The degree, diploma or certificate in the original language;
2.Official transcripts of educational courses completed in the original language showing subjects, hours, examination results and details of practical and clinical education;
3. Evidence of employment experience as a dentist following graduation to the present;
4.Two recent references relating to professional competence;
5.Documented evidence of completed internship, where applicable;
6. Evidence of registration / licensure from the State or Country of training and practice;
7. Evidence of current registration;
8.Evidence of change of name, where applicable; and Certified translations in English of all documents must be provided and attached to the document to which they refer (extract translations will not be accepted).

Regarding books, improtant thing is to buy good books in advance, I'd warmly reccomend the following:

1. Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology by Neville Damm Allen Bouquot ELSEVIER
2. Dental management o the Medically Compromised Patient by Little & co Mosby
these two are nice ones for mcq and saq preparation I think
3. Phillips' Science of Dental Materials is a bit "dry" but a good source as well
4. Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry By Cameron Widmer Mosby I found that book ok, maybe not everything I would like to find.
5. Contemporary Orthodontics by Proffit, a bit too technical, difficult to find necessary information, very deep and good for spec. in orthodontics.

Very good source is Dental Decks, read and remember!!!

And of course Oxford handbook of Clinical Dentistry is essential.
Odell is good too, but a bit "too much" for SAQs.

Well it's probably all for now. Yes, I think there are many wrong MCQs answers, need to check yourself and correct them, then you'll remember better.

seems you will be very busy next month.
Here firstly wish you best performance on both exams!
secondly thank you for your recommendation of booklist. they are more than what I expected (I haven't reading much on dentistry for 5 years, yes, that is since when I graduated! a bit scary right?)I probably will finish reading oxford and mcqs and odell first. After your prelim pls come back and revise this list, see if you still reckon these books are all necessary for prelims.

for the assessment you need to download the assessment form from adc website i remember they have payment details in the form , just need your card name , number , expiry date and the fee amount

probably you haven't checked every attachments I put in the mail coz the Sep 06 is also among them but anyway you focus on your oet first.
don't be panic coz oet is not hard at all just relax and be yourself everything will be just fine listening part is a bit hard i agree, remember don't write full sentences, just write down important points as 1,2 ,3 ,the more points you catch the more credit you will get for them. (as told in the preparation materials).

actuali i ve just going thru the details its nice u ve put the effort to put them on but would like to tell my case where i didn submit the transcripts and still got assessment done ...it is for those who dont ve transcripts as i graduated from RGUHS ;they usually dont give transcipts so its worth giving try without sending them transcripts ..if u get unlucky then might have to get them made ...........guys

reference letters

mind u all people from tamil nadu ....who have lifetime membership pl have a certificate of good standing that u dont have past or future action pending .. TNDC has preset format so no worries; they ask for it ..once they ask send it then only .......

a myth which i want every one to kno :
ADC TAKES LONG FOR ASSESMENT :

FALSE : if u have evrything alrite so no worries ;they tuk only 1 month for my assessment out of which i wasted 13 days in getting the good standing certi ..so keep cool

well drill sorry no idea abt website ...n somali well i dont ve any special tips; but ya i concentrated only on reading as its bit tricky but not as difficult ;as in india as we have been taught onli in english ...so no prob for most of the indians ...do some practice tests it wil help ;the format of refernce letter in writing is pretty easy; as we usuali have in india so thats k even ...any more help ..trust me listening and speaking are cake walk so no worries but to ve good grades just practice some sample papers would give u idea abt the pattern ...

and new member macy .... glad to kno u in melb too do u ve bouchers and cawson ..pl help and be in touch we can help each other n all .....

i am just starting .
the worst thing for me is i didn't learn dentistry in English , my English on dentistry or medicine is not good as you guys.
I tried to get hold of some books ADC recommended , but at last I found it is impossible for me to finish them all in such a short time
then what happened dramatically to me is I found this website accidentally then I've read all the relavant posts by seniors, some of them used to be really active and they have discussed a lot on MCQs and etc. I have followed their advice for MCQ , I bought odell , got the MCQs , and got dental decks , also oxford handbook .
and from some other forum member's advice in the posts, which is "only those ones are not enough" ,
I decided to start from MCQs and go back to textbooks for exact answers and do cross reference. I think at least using this method a lot of dentistry knowledge will be refreshed.

guys we have only half a year left. let us try our best .
