I was browsing through various NS residency programs and came across a good number where you spend up to 2 years of your residency in research. On the other hand there are also programs that do not require any bench research, but are the same amount of time. How can this be? One resident can spend 6 years worth of OR experience against a resident who only spent 4 or 5 years. One question would be, could the NS residency be shortened; another might be, should academic residency be longer? Just wondering everyones thoughts on the academic v. non-academic residency training.
