Do most programs send out more than one wave of invitations? Is there still hope to hear from those that haven't send a definite rejection?

Purely speculative, but based on last year's thread most programs send out invites on one day. That being said you could get an invite later on if/when applicants cancel interviews.

Yes there is still hope. Just because a program has sent out interviews does not mean you are out of the running. However what it does mean is that you are possibly in a wait list spot. You would never know it though cause most programs don’t say you are wait listed. I received multiple interviews weeks or even months after their initial invites. In fact the program I matched to sent me an invite 4months after their initial round so don’t get discouraged. A lot of action starts occurring towards the second half of the season as people start dropping interviews at places they are less interested in. I dropped multiple interviews simply because I didn’t have the time or money to go to them all and as I started recieving interviews at places I was more interested in I needed to prioritize as dates started to conflict. For the record I went to 9 in total. If you have a strong application and good interpersonal communication skills then that is all you need.

Hi, I was hoping if previous applicants can give some advice. I am seeing so many programs now sending out interviews. I am sitting only on two interviews and have a few rejections already. Not sure if I should be worried as its already March and everyone here seems to have 10+ interviews ? I am still waiting on my second ITE score and hope to send those scores out with my first ITE to help my application. I guess I am just asking should I send my first ITE score as it is a strong point of my application or wait to send both (in hopes I do well)? Also, should I expect a bulk of the interviews be sent out in April/May? Thanks

It is early on still. The first wave is out and the second wave is coming. Also, you just need one fellowship spot, not 10.

The information above is to give you ideas about interview dates and what programs have offered interviews. If you see a specific program you are interested in on that list, you should reach out to them with any positive news you have to help them offer you a spot or put you on their wait list. ITE scores are a small part of things but it helps to show interest in case your application didn't get looked at closely.

Would you email these updates to the coordinator or try to include the PD as well if you can find their email? Don't want to appear too aggressive but also want to make sure that the message makes it to a decision maker.

PD with a CC to the coordinator is appropriate

I got a “not selected for first round of interviews” email from Duke. Do y’all think that’s a rejection or more of a waitlist?

I think the above goes to show:

1) USMLE scores do matter, but wont necessarily make you or break you.
2) USMLE scores matter even more for IMG's than US grads.
3) Of the step scores, Step 3 matters least (as would be expected).
4) US Grads: Need 6 interviews/ranks for a ~85% chance of matching, and 12 interviews/ranks for a ~95% chance of matching.
5) IMG's: Need 6 interviews/ranks for a ~60% chance of matching, and 12 interviews/ranks for a ~80% chance of matching.
6) The higher your scores deviate from the average, the less ranks you'll need for a successful match.
7) The amount of research you have is not strongly associated with a successful match.
8) AOA status matters not.

Good luck everyone!

I'm not sure I follow your interpretation. Based on the stats you quoted, the step 1 score for matched vs. unmatched was only 9 points which is less than a 10% difference. Remarkably the # of research experiences was 25% of a difference. The biggest different was AOA membership. That being said, I dont know how many AOAs are truly going into pain fellowship. The most important graph I think is the # of programs ranked vs. likelihood of match. That being said I know people who had 6 interviews and didn't match and those with 3 interviews who did. Go figure
